It’s actually fairly easy to achieve the effect that you have in mind using BorisFX. Here’s how:

• start with the footage to key
• add the chroma key filter directly to the clip and generate the desired key
• you should now have a single track with the keyed person over transparent background
• deselect the track and add the displacement map filter to the timeline
• twirl down the displacement map filter controls to show the map track
• drag the keyed clip onto the map track so that it nested
• deselect the displacement filter track and add the background track to the timeline
• drag the displacement map filter track onto the background track so that it nested
• you should now see that the background image is showing a fluid-like displacement of the keyed image

Hi,

If you nest the text track into the mask track of a video clip it will generate the effect you are looking for. To access the mask track in the video clip, click the triangle next to the video layer which will twirl down the video layer and reveal the sub-layers (mask, transform, face). Then drag the text layer onto the mask layer of the video track.

Hi Tom,

We have confirmed the problem that you are seeing with the 7.0.2 version of the Page Turn filter and have implemented a fix that we will make available in the next update, v 7.0.3.

As I mentioned in my previous post on this thread, you should be able to use the BCC Layer Deformer to create the look that you have in mind while waiting for the (free) update to BCC 7.0.2 which will include this fix.

I’ll have someone take a look at the problem that you are reporting this morning and let you know if this is something that we are seeing on our systems.

Meanwhile, you might try working with the BCC Layer Deformer filter, setting the Shape pop-up to Page Curl and using the Curl Percent, Radius and Direction parameters to control the effect.

I believe you are looking for a way to create a symbolic link to a single precomposed instance of a track to use as media for multiple other tracks and for all instances of the track to update if the original source text is modified.

Is this a fair description of what you are trying to do?

Currently I know of no way to achieve this as a live effect in RED. What you can do though is to render a quicktime from a project which contains only the text that you need to use for the multiple tracks and then use the rendered quicktime as the source for these tracks. You could then modify the text project with any changes that you need to make, re-render a new quicktime and if you use the same name for the new render then the update to all of the tracks that use this clip will be automatic.

I will add the symbolic link to a precomp as a wish list item for a future version of the software so that you can achieve this without having to use the method that I describe above.

The Light Zoom needs to be placed upstream of the transforms for it to move with the transformed map – try dragging the filter and the map into a container and then making all of the transform moves to the container and not the extruded map track.

I’d suggest using the BCC Witness Protect filter to achieve that result – it’s the easiest and fastest way to do this in Boris RED.
