  • Hi Stefan,

We’re going to attempt to reproduce the issues that you reported here in our labs. I’ll let you know how that goes as soon as I hear back from our QA group.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

May 24, 2012 at 3:08 pm in reply to: RED5 – corner pin tracker and light wrap

    Hi Guillaume,

The only way to do this is to pre-compose the layer that you want to affect with the light wrap filter before you use it as a source for the corner pin. You are, in essence, creating a clip with the light wrap effect already on it and then feeding this into the corner pin filter.

The Light Wrap filter need alpha information in order to do it’s trick … you can use the BCC PixelChooser filter to provide that to the Light Wrap filter. So, first you apply the Pixel Chooser filter to the clip that you want to have a light wrap. Set the PixelChooser channel to None and the Region to Inside Rectangle and position the rectangle so that it butts up to the edge of the source. The result should be that the clip now has a soft alpha edge to it. Then you add the BCC Light Wrap filter to this clip and set the Light Wrap to blend the background image onto the edge of the filtered foreground image. This result is then used as the source for the Corner Pin filter.

I hope this helps to explain how to make this effect.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

  • Hi Scott,

I’d like to have one of our support guys call you right away to sort this out – I don’t want our software to stand in the way of you being able to meet your deadline. Can you please send me your phone number – you can send that to me here: peterm@borisfx.com.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

  • Hi Scott,

Send me one of the projects without media (peterm@borisfx.com) and I’ll see if I can open it on my system. You must be in RED standalone mode, right? I noticed that your MC is v 6, so you’ll be using the 64 bit of RED for that system when using the plug-in. Did you by any chance save out the project from the plug-in and then attempt to open it with the standalone 32 bit version of RED? Have you tried opening the project using the 64 bit version of RED?

    Cheers,

    Peter.

  • Hi,

Definitely sounds like an issue with the graphics card – the filter that you are trying to use is a GPU filter and needs to render on the card, not the CPU so therefore if the card that you are using is incompatible with the filter then it’s not going to work. As far as I am aware, and I might be wrong about this, but we have not tested that particular configuration in our labs. Here’s a list of the supported video cards, which we have published on our web site (note that more cards than are listed here will work, but these are the cards that we have tested and have proven to work in our labs):

    https://www.borisfx.com/Adobe/bccae/Graphics-Cards.php

So … although the card that you have is not on the supported list, it might work with the right driver – I’m not saying that it will, but rather that it might. It’s worth trying to see if updating the driver changes the situation in your favor. Before you update the driver though, make sure to copy the one that you are using so that you can quickly and easily return to this driver if the change fails to help.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

May 22, 2012 at 9:37 pm in reply to: Red’s Motion Key Effect Creating *Two* Masks?

    Hi Peter,

The problem with this is that you need to feed the motion key filter a stabilized clip – there’s just way too much camera shake in the original shot for the Motion Key to generate a good result. Here’s the workflow:

    • import the clip into RED
    • use the optical stabilizer to stabilize the media
    • render out a new stabilized clip
    • import the stabilized clip into RED
    • use the motion key filter to remove the person

I’ve sent along a RED project (privately) so that you can see how it’s done.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

May 22, 2012 at 6:34 pm in reply to: When will RED’s colour picker be fixed???

    Hi Jaeson,

I apologize on behalf of the company for the frustration that this may have caused you. I don’t quite know the reason for the delay in getting this fix out there but I’ll ask engineering to elevate this issue.

    Thanks for the reminder.

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

We would very much like to work with you to resolve this – would be be possible for us to use the clip that you are using in the images that you posted? If so, please drop me a note at peterm@borisfx.com and we’ll give it a shot. Assuming that it will work for us, we can then send you the .red project file so that you can see how we did it.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

May 8, 2012 at 5:18 pm in reply to: Cumbersome License & Registration Process

    Hi John,

I’m sorry you felt that you needed to jump through hoops in order to license the software you purchased. For the record, we rarely have a complaint about our licensing process and in fact, for customers who purchase a new product (not upgrade customers) the process is 100 percent automated and takes about 60 seconds to complete. For upgrade customers, we first need to verify that the customer is registered as a user and therefore qualifies for the upgrade before we can issue a license code for the software. Once verified, the process is completed in less than a minute … it’s the verification that takes time. And for most of these requests, we handle them immediately, even (whenever possible) outside of normal business hours. Sometimes there is a delay and you happened to fall into one of those times … I’d like to apologize on behalf of the company for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Thank you for taking the time to write about this so that we know how it affects you. We appreciate your business and are constantly working on streamlining the order and licensing process.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

May 8, 2012 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Cumbersome License & Registration Process

    Hi John,

While you are waiting for a license code, you should be able to run the software without watermark for 14 days from the date of install. Post the 14 day mark, you should still be able to use the software, albeit it will render a watermark at the bottom of the screen until you enter the license.

    Cheers,

    Peter.
