June 29, 2012 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Could Boris Red5 replace some After Effects features?Hi Carlos,
Glad to be of assistance.
Regarding the difficulty of learning RED as compared to After Effects … both of these applications have a learning curve but if you are familiar with keyframe animation and layers then it should not be too difficult. There are so many resources available, many of them free, to ease the learning curve. You can start by sifting through the various tutorials and webinars that are located here:
https://www.borisfx.com/videos/RED/
https://www.borisfx.com/webinar/
And absolutely everything that you see in the video link that you included in your post can be done with relative ease in Boris RED.
I hope this helps.
Peter.

Hi,
I’ve reproduced this as you describe but it’s unclear to me whether this is a new problem. Has this worked for you in the past?
What I am seeing is that the preset name is visible, and that I can select this from the list. However, when I enter the RED UI the Film Process filter is not in the composition. Is this what you are seeing?
One possible workaround for you is to save the composition to the RED Library Browser and then after you apply RED to another clip in the same (or a different) project you need to enter the RED UI and then select the saved composition preset from the RED Library Browser. Meanwhile, we’ll take a look into the issue.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Scott,
Are you experiencing this issue on Windows or Mac? And is this with RED 32 or RED 64 (or both?) Also, is this issue limited to the use of still image files or are you seeing it with video clips? Of course the next question I have would be when did this start happening?
Sounds like we might need to open this up to support … have you been in touch with them?
Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Dave,
I’m surprised to hear that a font wouldn’t load for you in RED. I am constantly adding and removing fonts from my systems, Mac and Windows, and the fonts that I use always show up for me.
If you would like to send us the font, we can try to see if it loads on our systems and if not then we can try to understand why the font won’t load. You will need to open up a support case for this … contact our support guys at support@borisfx.com and they will work with you on this.
Please feel free to cc me on your email to them (peterm@borisfx.com)
Thanks,
Peter.

Yes, that’s the whole idea behind Boris RED … you can use it to generate animated VFX without having to leave the editing timeline. And because the editor (Vegas in this case) does all of the rendering, the effect remains live and can easily be modified.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi James,
Thanks for the detailed report and for the screenshot – this definitely helps.
We’ll attempt to reproduce the problem in our labs and from there we can determine where the problem exists and if it’s on our end we’ll do our best to institute a solution with a quick update to the software and if it’s on the host side then we’ll report the issue back to the m and hopefully they will resolve it in short order.
Thanks!
Peter.

May 29, 2012 at 2:37 pm in reply to: BCC8 / Vegas 10 Pro / 3d Image Shatter not shatteringHi Stewart,
Thanks for providing these steps – I’ll have that checked this morning to see if we can reproduce the problem on our systems.
I’ll report back to you my findings this afternoon.
Thanks,
Peter.

Hi Steve,
Although no such mechanism currently exists (to my knowledge) on our site, I’ll put forward your request – I think it’s a great idea and would be very useful to all users of our software.
Thanks for mentioning this.
Cheers,
Peter.

Hi Guillaume,
I’m glad the steps that I provided helped you to generate the effect that you had in mind. I’ll take your suggestion of adding the Light Warp function to the BCC Corner Pin (and the BCC MatchMove) filters and add that to our feature wish list. Thanks for suggesting that – I’m sure a lot of users would find it handy.
Cheers,
Peter.

May 26, 2012 at 4:01 pm in reply to: BCC8 / Vegas 10 Pro / 3d Image Shatter not shatteringHi Stewart,
I’m very sorry to hear that you had that experience with BCC 8 – thankfully you were able to revert to BCC 7 and get the job done but we need to fully understand the problem that you encountered so that we can take the necessary steps to resolve the issue.
My first question for you is were you using the most up to date version of BCC 8? I’m assuming that the answer to this is going to be yes but I have to ask.
Next, if you could please be so kind as to walk us through the steps to recreate the problem on our systems we would really appreciate it. The office is closed until Tuesday, in observance of Memorial Day, but please send me an email with the steps and I’ll work with QA and Support to reproduce the issue, log a case and then I’ll work with Engineering to resolve the problem. My email is peterm@borisfx.com.
Thanks.
Peter.
