    Hi Chris,

We’re working on that right now and will certainly have a version available for MacIntel before the end of the year. The first piece of the puzzle for us is to make ready the BCC filters as MacIntel Universal Binary filters, which should be ready any time now – we’re in the final phase of testing them prior to release. Once we complete that work and release it to the public, we will be able to focus that portion of our engineering staff on the rest of our code, RED, Graffiti and FX. I know that it must be frustrating for those of you out there that have paid for one of the MacIntel machines and are enjoying using FCP on these systems but are unable to use your plug-ins. Know that we are cognizant of this and are feverishly working to resolve the situation. Feel free to contact me directly at peterm@borisfx.com with any questions.

    I hope this helps.

    Peter.

The release order will be Continuum first and then RED. I can’t divulge any more details but it’s not that far away.

    Cheers,

    Hello,

With Avid, you can apply more than one filter to a video track clip by alt + dragging the filter onto the video track in the timeline. Let’s say that you apply Boris FX to a video track in the Avid timeline and have added a color correction or a glow effect to the background image element. Then you click apply in the Boris FX UI and are returned to the Avid UI. Then let’s say you want to create a title over this effect … the solution I would suggest would be to hold down the alt key and drag the Graffiti filter onto the clip. Open the effects editor palette and you will be able to access the Graffiti UI. The clip in Graffiti will display the clip with the effect from Boris FX intact. Then simply create the title and click the apply button in the Graffiti UI to return back to the Avid timeline. To go back and edit the Boris FX effect, you must step in to the sub-clip and launch Boris FX by clicking on the icon the the effects palette.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hello,

All I can offer in terms of a response is that we have not heard of any reports regarding the issue that you describe and cannot reproduce the issue in house so I would be inclined to think that this problem is independent of RED.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi,

We’re testing a possible solution right now and will have more information and possibly a resolution for this issue sometime tomorrow, Friday Oct 20. I’ll let you know how we make out with it as soon as we have the results from our testing.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

    Hi Tim,

By pop-up I mean the function whereby a menu will pop-up or appear after you click on a menu item. In this context, it is font or text size. In the text generator window, you can see this by typing a few characters, selecting perhaps one or more but not all of the characters, and then clicking on the button that displays the current font size. Then when you select anew size from the menu, only the selected text will change. You can also just enter a value to the left of this pop-up and again, only the selected text will change. The same rule holds true for the font face.

    I hope this helps.

    Peter.

October 18, 2006 at 8:05 pm in reply to: Boris Red not showing in FCP

    Hello,

Because the current release of RED 4 is not a Universal Binary application, it will not appear as a filter in FCP on a MacIntel machine. Yes, you can use it standalone operation but as you mentioned, you want to use this as a filter within FCP. We are currently finishing and testing the code for the Universal Binary version and expect to be able to make that available quite soon … certainly before the end of the year. This will be a free upgrade for RED 4 users.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Tim,

We are working on a Universal Binary (MacIntel) version of the product and expect to make that available before the end of the year.

I think the issue that you are seeing with regard to the text changing may be related to the way you are changing the text. If you use the buttons to change the size then all of the text will change, whether it is highlighted (selected) or not, however if you use the pop-ups to make this change then only the selected text will change. Can you try that to see if it works for you?

I’ve not seen the window sticking as you have described but I can understand how that would not look so good when in a client session. Does it happen all of the time? Our tech support department should be hearing about this … could I ask you to please send them a note?

The driver issue sounds a little odd alright – I’m at a loss as to why you would have to reload the software after loading new drivers for your video card. Again, this needs to go to our tech support department – could I please ask you to send that to them?

    Thanks,

    Peter.

October 16, 2006 at 8:11 pm in reply to: Transitions in Red 4 and FCP 5.0.4

    Hello,

We are discussing ways to convert the RED 3 settings so that they will open as RED 4 settings and will respond on this topic when we have something more concrete to offer.

I believe the upgrade from RED 3 to RED 4 was quite significant even if it did not offer a solution to the transition issue that is the topic of discussion here. The paint engine alone is a tremendous upgrade to the system that we had in RED 3 for paint, plus all of the other new filters and of course the revised GUI.

The transitions not rendering from FCP into Compressor without rendering the piece first in FCP is indeed something that has never worked. We have a log of this in the database and will see what we can do to help get around the current workflow, which is to export a movie from FCP and then import the movie file into Compressor. When we have more info regarding this we’ll send a post to the list.

    Thanks,

    Peter.
