You can bypass the problem by duplicating the text layer and placing it above the layer with the filter effect, then remove the filter effect from the duplicated layer and animating the opacity of the unfiltered layer over a couple of frames to allow the filtered effect to come through while maintaining the unfiltered text at the start of the effect.

Hi,
While both are good solid effects packages, there are many filters in the Boris Continuum Complete (BCC) package (our only offering for the combustion host environment) which are unavailable in the Sapphire package such as Motion Key foreground object removal, or Optical Flow based image retiming to name just a couple. There are features built-into most filters in the BCC package which are not found in any of the filters in the Sapphire package, such as motion tracking and the PixelChooser masking and matting system. Also, all BCC filters include a pop-up preset manager that comes with about 1500 presets. The preset manager also enables you to save your own custom effects settings that can be reused on different projects or shared with other systems that also have BCC installed (FCP, Flame, Smoke, Avid etc).
At the end of the day it comes down to what you really are looking for in terms of an effects package. I can’t tell you which one to buy (my opinion is obviously biased seeing as I work for BorisFX) but can point to some of the differences between each of these packages, which is what I have done above. You might want to download the trial version of the BCC product and use it for a couple of weeks to see if it meets your needs.

Hi,
Graffiti 5 will not operate within FCP on MacIntel systems until the patch is ready, which should be there in a couple of weeks. This will be a free patch for users of Graffiti 5. The patch will not work for older versions of the product.

The answer is yes, 3rd party plugins designed for use with host applications that support the AE plug-in API (FCP, AE, PPro, etc) can be used in Boris RED, Graffiti and FX. The filters need to be placed into the BorisPlugins folder, which is located in Application Support/BorisFX on the Mac and in the Applications\Boris FX, Inc folder on Windows.

If you want to apply the Continuum effect to the title only, then you need to enable the “Apply to Title-Matte” parameter in the Continuum filter, which is located in the “Title Matte” section, just below the “General Controls” section.

Actually the patch that we made was in the form of RED 4 so you’ll need to upgrade for RED to work with that version of Avid XPress Pro.

Hi Larry,
There might be a conflict between the cd patch version that you are trying to install and the fact that you had a try and buy demo version installed prior to the attempted install from the cd patch. But this is only a guess and I could be wrong. Have you backed out the try and buy demo version? Perhaps you could give that a shot and try running the patch again.
Meanwhile, I’m forwarding this issue on to our support team to see if one of the guys have come across this issue before and if they can offer a solution.
