With RED 3GL, we were only able to offer support for AE 7 on Windows, and feedback from our users indicated that there was not actually a great call or need for RED (which is a compositor) within AE (also a compositor) due to the fact that BCC has most of the more commonly used filters that are included in RED and uses the AE host native UI. With that we decided to place a greater emphasis on support for NLE systems with RED 4, where RED is relied upon more heavily for effects creation and compositing. So while RED 4 may not function within the AE 7 timeline, you can still render out clips from RED 4 and import the rendered clips back into AE 7, although you probably know that already.

Hi Wayne,
You might have to upgrade to BCC 4 as I’m not sure that BCC 3 is supported by FCP 5.1.2. Generally speaking, we do not provide patches for obsolete software, which is the case with BCC 3. As soon as a new version of one of our products is released, the old version is rendered obsolete and is no longer updated.
To check and see if this is indeed the case with your system, I would recommend that you install the BCC 4 trial version and see if that works for you. Please feel free to contact our support staff at support@borisfx.com if you need any help with the installation or if the BCC 4 filters do not work.

Hi Dave,
The BCC Optical Flow filter will only affect the clip to which it was applied if the settings have been changed from default. At default the filter is set to a velocity of 100, which is 100% of the speed of the original and the input frame rate is set to 29.97, which is standard for NTSC video. If you change either of these settings from their default you will see a change in the clip. Experimentation is key here, so set the speed that you want using velocity, then adjust the input frame rate to get a more film like look and feel. to slow a clip to half speed, set velocity to 50% and to give it a film like look/feel, set the input frame rate to 24 FPS.

Hey Guys,
I know that we were due to have this available before the end of 2006 and please accept our apologies for the delay but we should have it ready for you (hopefully) within the next 24 – 48 hours. We suffered from delays because of the holidays but that is all behind us now and we are moving forward with the release, which is in the final stages of preparation.

I’m glad that worked for you. Sometimes a couple of the more complex filters in the BCC set can be a little unwieldily, especially when you’re not using them every day.

Please know that the engineers here are cranking as fast as they can on this project. We are coming closer by the day to a release of Graffiti, FX and RED for MacIntel systems. Sooner rather than later but stable rather than sooner, right? 🙂

I’ve got a solution that I think should work for you.
After you set up the explosion with the Daisy image, follow these instructions:
