    Hello,

We’re always open to feature requests … is there anything that you cannot do in titling with RED or Graffiti that you can do in another titling application? If so we would love to hear about it so that we can improve upon our product line.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hello,

There are a number of tutorial files that are free to download from the BorisFX web site, one of which deals with the problem that you are attempting to solve, which is rotoscoping spline masks.

Here’s a link where you can find these tutorials:

    https://www.borisfx.com/tutorials/#red

And here’s a direct link to download the rotoscope PDF:

In addition to the spline based rotoscope method, another option is to use RED 4, which includes two additional ways to remove undesired elements from a scene. One method is to use the included BCC Motion Key filter. The Motion Key filter was designed from the ground up to deal with this problem. It works best with locked down shots but can be used on non-locked down shots too depending on the clip. The second option is to use the clone paint tool in RED 4 to clone out the unwanted portion of the image much like you would do with photoshop. Once you have successfully cloned out the element in question, you can apply a motion tracker to animate the clone work to complete the process.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi,

The only thing that I can think of is that the preferences file may have become corrupt … you might want to try deleting the preferences for RED 3 GL and then re-rendering the project to see if that helps. If that doesn’t do it then you should send a copy of the project to our support team who can troubleshoot the issue for you.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

  • Hello,

Boris Blue not only handles the preview of compositions via the GPU but also exports that preview from the GPU to disc as the final result. This is how it has such a tremendous speed advantage over other compositing solutions. For most work it is pretty much real-time for previews and exports with Blue.

Boris RED uses the GPU for preview only and all exports to disc are re-rendered using a traditional scan line rendering approach. While Boris RED uses one CPU for most operations there are some operations that use multiple CPU’s, such as some of the filters where rendering can be CPU intensive.

    I hope this helps.

We expect to have Universal Binary Intel (Mac Pro) native versions of all of our software products available before the end of this year. That’s about all of the information that I can provide at this stage but rest assured that we are indeed currently working on this and that we will deliver it to customers over the next few months.

August 17, 2006 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Extruded Logo extraneous line artifacts

    Hi Steve,

It was unclear which file on the putfile site you wanted me to look at. If you could please tell me which one has the extrusion effect I’ll take a look to see if I can understand the issue that you are seeing.

Meanwhile please send me the settings file that you used to create the extrusion and I’ll examine it here. You can send me the file via an email attachment at peterm@borisfx.com.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

  • Hi Ben,

You might want to try using a combination of two filters to achieve this effect. First I would apply the Median filter and then I would stack on top of that the Posterize filter. This should at least bring you close to the look that we saw in the Scanner Darkly film. The preset that I would suggest using from the Median filter is called “even_spots” and setting the mix with original to 30. The Posterize filter can be left at it’s default setting or you might want to try using the “posterizeIrisRegion” preset.

Although I mentioned adding the Posterize filter, you should be pretty close to the effect that you are trying to emulate with the Median alone. The Posterize filter just makes the result look a little nicer in my opinion.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Peter.

August 17, 2006 at 3:18 pm in reply to: NLE integration has stopped working

It may be that the preference controlling the auto generation of track in the timeline may have inadvertently been changed. To check this, please go to the RED preferences panel and under the Behavior tab check the status of the “Start With Empty Timeline” function. If checked you will not see tracks when you open RED. If you change it you will need to remove and reapply the effect to see this change.

    I hope this helps.

    Peter.
