Hi Walter,

My understanding is that this release of FCP (5.1.4) does not change the way BCC operates within FCP (as compared to the 5.1.2 release.) There are still a couple of outstanding issues which are currently under investigation and hopefully will be resolved with the next major release of FCP.

Looks as though you have discovered a glitch … I just checked 4.0 and the logs are written as expected, which on the Mac is in the Boris RED folder in the Applications folder, however in 4.1 I can’t seem to find them. I’ll take this up with our engineering team to see if they can shed any light on the matter.

I’d be very interested in obtaining a copy of the image and seeing if we can reproduce this in house – that way we can better determine where the problem exists. I suspect it’s going to the 10 bit codec that is causing the loss in data but can’t be sure until I give it a shot myself.

HI,

It’s possible that RED may have clipped the values of the image to color safe – to prevent RED from doing this you should disable the “Generate Safe Levels” option which is in the project settings (not the preference settings.) If this doesn’t do the trick then it may have more to do with the conversion of the image across color space and bit depths between the applications. Although RED can handle 16 bit color, FCP only passes 8 bit data through the API. Have you tried using RED in standalone at 16 bit to see if that prevents the shift from occurring?

Nope … the fix is totally on their end, not ours so 4.1 will be sufficient to get the transitions to work.

Unfortunately no, this minor update for FCP does not include the RED transition fix that we are all waiting for but we have had confirmation from Apple that they have fixed the problem and will include this with the next major release of FCP.

Hi,

We discovered an issue when using any of the OGL filters (Lens Flare is one of these) in RED while running inside of the Avid host and were forced to make the decision of removing the OGL filters from RED until we have a fix for the problem. It is unclear at this time when the resolution for this issue may come about – hopefully by the next release. Meanwhile you can still use the BCC AVX OGL filters (including the lens Flare) to achieve that result.

Hi,

If you first move the pin points so that they are at the extreme edges of the composite window, you will see that the entire image is displayed, undistorted and uncropped. Then use the crop controls and observe that the image is “cropped” into the pin region. There are no locks for XY so the image will appear distorted if you use anything other than the same number in each of the crop boxes. In other words, if you need to crop 50 pixels from each side then enter 50 into each of the 4 crop parameters. Once you crop, then you position using the on-screen point controls. This should work but if it doesn’t please let me know and we’ll take a look to see if we can figure it out together.
