This is correct – while the Graffiti effect will work and enable you to generate a title as you describe (I’m assuming you are applying it to black video), you can only see the underlying video tracks once you exit from Graffiti. This is because Graffiti will only read video from the track to which it was applied. The only way around this is to export the media from Premiere Pro and then import this as a movie file into the background track when in Graffiti.

It might be that it’s the video card alright – I just checked one of the systems here and Graffiti works as expected and displays the contents of the video track that the filter was applied to in Premiere Pro 1.5 so I have to assume that it’s not software which is causing the problem.

With regard to which video card to purchase … the machine that I tested with uses an N-Vidia G-Force 6800, which costs about $200 but I’m sure that lesser cards would work too. As long as the card has 32 MB of texture memory you should be fine.

Hi,

The Colorista plug-in from Magic Bullet is a relatively new addition to the Magic Bullet line up and arrived on the scene much later than the release of RED 3. I just tried it in RED 4.1, which is the current version of RED, and while it does not crash the application, it does not operate as expected. I don’t expect there is much that we can do to make it work at this moment in time but we’ll keep it on the wish list for future development work.

Apple told us they have a fix and that they intend make it available with the next major release of FCP. That’s all we know. I understand that it must be frustrating to have to wait for so long to get this fixed but the situation is completely out of our hands. Thanks for hanging in there.

I just took a look at this and agree that the pixel chooser region seems to be a little unpredictable – sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ll ask engineering to take a look to see if we can isolate the problem.

We extended the drag and drop feature of graffiti and fx so that you can drag multiple clips at once from any folder into the timeline, but this is only in the latest versions of these applications. In RED you can drag multiple files at once into the project window or the timeline.

This could possibly happen if the actual timeline is clicked while previewing the effect in Library Browser. If that’s the case then suggest followings:

1) either close the Library Browser window if you want to preview the effect in actual timeline or

2) do not click in the actual timeline when previewing the effect in Library Browser.

This sounds like an OpenGl related issue. Can you please send me the versions of the Avid MC and BCC along with the machine specs that you are using please? Once I have that information I’ll bring this to our engineering dept to see if they understand why this is happening.
