Also I lookedit up and tried to install a demo version of the plug-in. Look like a great product but apparently it doesn’t work with FCP 6.

I may be able ot get that in the future but are there any other solutions to correcting the fields on this footage thats already been converted? Can I run it through cinema tools ro something?

I’ve found the kona 2 does a decent job upconvert SD to 1080p. you will manually ened to set the settings in the KONA2 control panel you should have installed. If you go to digital out in the control panel you’ll find the up and downconvert settings.
Sadly the kona 2 does not cross convert 720p to 1080p. You will need to look for another solution for that one.

IU’ve notcied sometimes if the computer is workibng on something else in the backgorund it can cause glitches in the render. Be sure that no other backgorund process are eating up tons of resoruces while compressor is running
Since wer’e on the topic has anyone else gotten the bug where compressor freezes at like 98% completion and never moves?

Ok so this same situation happened to me on a sperate system using FCS2. the MPEG rendering freezes at nearly complete and stop moving. It is also uncancelable and is clogging fo the queue in the batch monitor.
Has anyone else experienced this yet? Is it a bug in the new Compressor?

Your best bet may be to try to drop your image into a 16:9 DVCPRO Sequence in FCP then export that. It the sequence is tagged at 16:9 and your footage as 4:3 it should pillarbox it automatically. It will take plenty fo render time in FCP to do the sizing but it should work. Test with a small piece of footage first to be sure.

Well this isn’t from a video it’s a QT file I was given so I’d assume the pulldown was removed already. the file is definately at 23.98 right now My main concern is then is having FCP re-render the clip in a 59.97p sequence going to look ok? Or should I run it through cinema tools instead?

Ok I figured out a workaround by throwing the clip on a 720p59.94 sequence and rendering a bit I got the playback to work. I’d still prefer not to add another level of renderingif possible. Is there a way to get the 24p to work with the downconvert?

it’s kind of sad that DVDSP doesn’t support bluray yet. HDV is actually a good candidaite for it since MPEG 2 is supported on blu-ray format without further compression. Finally we’d have a way to output HDV natively without taking a quality hit.
