When my Targa 2000 SDX died on my discreet edit system about three years ago I had to had to buy a replacement card for US$10,500. When that card died less than a year later, I bought a brand new replacement card from Lyn Norstad for US$1,300! It is market forces and the way all commercial technology gains in power whilst reducing in cost. His argument is really baloney and just comes down to sour grapes from an unsubstantiated perspective.

Will the PCI-e card operate okay with SD material on a 1x PCIe slot? That’s all I’ve got on my Supermicro PDSGE. I was thinking of getting a Decklink HD to run on the same 133MHz PCI-X bus as my raid controller. Which would be a better solution?

I agree with Luke. It’s just the way improved manufacturing abilities and a fluid market operate. I wouldn’t want to buy something and the next day it is available for a lower price, but caveat emptor; one should always be aware of impending probable price changes at NAB and IBC time.

I have an Inspiron 9300 with 2.0g Centrino, 6800 Go, 2-gig DDR400 and 1900 x 1200 17″screen. Works well.

You do have to work a little harder to make the Premiere worflow faster, but I’m pretty quick now after nine months switch from edit. I did some KB mods like TAB to go to next target edit point and SHIFT-TAB for the previous edit and modded a lot of functions to the left side of the KB like ADD DEFAULT VIDEO/AUDIO TRANSITION to ALT-A and ALT-Z. I wish the tabbing was more intuitive.

If NTSC is getting 24P 1080, then us PAL users WILL get 25P. But we never get 24P except in high-end F900’s and the like.

Hi Bob,
As a fellow ex-edit user, I use the basic Bella keyboard and a Contour ShuttlePro jogger for my left hand. Works really well, much better then the combo Bella jog/KB which makes you lift your hand from the mouse to use the jog wheel. You really need a color-coded KB. I use some edit shortcuts, but I mostly learned the new PPro ones.

Thanks Luke, the tech stuff of coding is beyond me but hopefully PPro and Decklink can marry in 64-land in the not too distant future.

I tested the SDX-900 in PAL, but found the progressive aliasing and strobing really hard to work with. It was worse than the HDW-750 HDCAM artifacting. I never had time to see if these effects translated to post, but I would buy one to replace my AJ-D910WA if I could. Ilike the four audio inputs and 12-bit processing over the 910.
