Thanks for the heads up Joshua. I guess I’ll just plow on with Final Cut for now.

Thanks Dennis, but it’s 4.2 I’ve had these problems with.

[walter biscardi] “Expect your productivity to drop by 25% or more when you’re first starting out in FCP. Unless you go out and get yourself a bunch of training right now.”
I reckon my productivity on day one of switching to mac has dropped 95%, but I am enjoying the challenge in a masochistic kind of way…

[Shane Ross] “Your VIEW>VIDEO PLAYBACK (view menu, VIDEO PLAYBACK) setting needs to match your clip settings…exactly. Best way is to choose an EASY SETUP and that does things automatically. AVCI, guessing then that you captured as ProRes? “
I used the Log and Transfer tool but I didn’t notice any settings for ProRes. I’ll give your display settings a check-out. Someone said I need to install a Mac plugin from Panasonic’s site, but I’m not sure if this is necessary with FCP7.

I’ve got the sequence set as Blackmagic 10-bit 1080i 50. I’m using three 1tb Seagate NS Enterprise drives striped RAID-0. The material is 100mbit AVC-Intra (10-bit)

August 23, 2009 at 11:35 pm in reply to: First commercial shot on the EX3 with Letus UltimateHi Mickey.
Tony used Nikon primes on the shoot. I think they were 28mm, 35mm 50mm and 85mm. I use Zeiss Contax lenses with my own Letus Ultimate because I like the way they focus in the same direction as cine lenses, their long focus throw and for their fantastic build, quality and consistency.
I get some vignetting with the Zeiss 28mm lens. You can see it on the music video clip; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-njdhiRncg&fmt=22
But because it is a music clip it doesn’t really matter – adds to it really. I wouldn’t want vignetting on a doco. Apparently the larger the rear diameter of the lens the less likely you will see vignetting.

I haven’t used the Letus and wondered if you used there new relay lens directly on the EX3?”Hi Michael,
No I haven’t used the relay. I am interested in Evangelos’ 2/3″ relay that he is developing; not due until November. It’s interesting with different cameras and 25mm adaptors. I just did this cheapie music video on a Canon A1 with the Letus and it came up pretty good for such a small camera.

I think web use smooths out a lot of differences between cameras. When you are producing broadcast material like commercials or docos that’s when you get what you pay for.
