I’m just editing away then a message comes up at random, “autosave cannot be performed. Operation not permitted” or something similar. Convential saves also cannot be performed. The project is a 1080 ACV-Intra (Varicam 2700) format with ProRes HQ compressor.
It’s tricky when you have a couple of hours of work that cannot be saved. I found a workaround by creating a new project and importing the old project into it, but this only delays the reoccurance for a few hours.
Anyway, on the Adobe beta forum we rant and rave about this sort of thing until they fix it. I was surprised that such an important issue has existed in FCP for so long. No offense intended.

I think I sort of fixed it. Create a new Admin account, booted that, then did a cold boot on my original (crash-laden) account and FCP7 loads and works. Doing a bit of digging, this is all very dodgy as many users are experiencing this, but at random it appears. Apple must be aware that this is widespread.

Yep tried that. The only thing that changed between the last two cold boot-ups was that I installed Boros Continuum 6. I’ve uninstalled that without effect.
Can I just reinstall FCP7 without doing any project damage?

Is everyone using the Intuos3 or 4? I was going to replace my 3 with the Large 4, but I’m not sure what the new “paper-like” surface of the Intuos4 is like for video editing.

My new Mac Pro 8-core came with Snow Leopard pre-installed so I had no choice. I’m a first time FCS3/Mac user but I’ve not noticed any OS-related hassles.

Likewise here. I find I can’t go to our nearest capital city and edit, as virtually all the production houses use FCP. I am picking it up quickly. I turned to FCP because of a P2 file number limitation in Premiere which I’m pleased to say has been fixed this week, but it came too late for me to start a new commercial so I baled to Mac.
I’m cutting a multicam classical concert this weekend and just downloaded Pluraleyes which has saved me heaps of time. Can’t use that on Premiere.
It all takes time I guess like you say. It was the same when I switched from edit* to PPro.
I’ve bought a couple of books from Amazon which is driving my wife mad; “haven’t you got anything better to read in bed?!”

Plus the capture window is in 4:3 with 16:9 source material. There doesn’t seem to be a 16:9 preset in the Blackmagic video settings – just “10-bit xxxx”. Is a 4:3 capture window normal for capturing widescreen Blackmagic video?

How are you going? Yes another editor* here. Imagine if edit had survived and developed until now? Would have been amazing I’m sure.
Thanks for the tips. I got RT on the HD-SDI going with the ProRes settings. I hadn’t tried that as I always have worked in 10-bit uncompressed. I guess I can still out a final export version in 10-bit uncompressed QuickTime after the project is done?Peter Corbett
