Upgrade to final cut 7
Posted by Niels Madsen on November 14, 2009 at 6:12 amI have just bought the upgrade to final cut studio 3 and have not installed it yet. Actually, I haven’t unpacked it yet, because while I was waiting for it to arrive, I noticed looked on the net and saw so many bad reviews for it. So I am not sure whether I should return it and use the money on something else.
Does anyone have any experience with this upgrade?

The ONLY problems I have heard are from those who did not move to the new version PROPERLY.
Clone your current system drive
Erase and Install the OS
Then Install the new FCSThere are no “technical solutions” to your “artistic problems”.

November 14, 2009 at 4:35 pmI’ve been using FCP 7 for the last couple of weeks on a reality series and this is the first time I think I may upgrade my personal machine before a “dot.zero.point.one” patch release. Smooth sailing (…knock on wood).

November 14, 2009 at 10:03 pmMost problems I’ve read about are folks not following the steps Zane outlined, and those using FCS3 with Snow Leopard. Many are staying with Leopard instead of SL.

November 15, 2009 at 1:29 amWell Niels,
It is running much better then Final Cut Pro 6 and seems to have more overhead to use. I don’t see any reason for you to not go ahead and take the plunge. I have cut two projects so far off it and it is great.Oh, I forgot to mention, it is running on my Apple G5 Dual 2.5GB/8GB RAM, 2TB Storage.
So go for it on any platform.

November 15, 2009 at 6:59 amMy new Mac Pro 8-core came with Snow Leopard pre-installed so I had no choice. I’m a first time FCS3/Mac user but I’ve not noticed any OS-related hassles.

December 2, 2009 at 7:21 pmIs it possible to use one copy of the upgrade to upgrade two copies of FCS on two different computers? Or would I have to buy one upgrade per copy?

Nope…that’s illegal.
[Ravi Kiran] “Or would I have to buy one upgrade per copy?”
Yup.

December 19, 2010 at 11:57 pmI thought you could have 2 versions of FCP, ie one on desktop, one on a laptop. So shouldn’t you be able to upgrade both versions?
