Your VIEW>VIDEO PLAYBACK (view menu, VIDEO PLAYBACK) setting needs to match your clip settings…exactly. Best way is to choose an EASY SETUP and that does things automatically. AVCI, guessing then that you captured as ProRes?

I’ve got the sequence set as Blackmagic 10-bit 1080i 50. I’m using three 1tb Seagate NS Enterprise drives striped RAID-0. The material is 100mbit AVC-Intra (10-bit)

I used the Log and Transfer tool but I didn’t notice any settings for ProRes. I’ll give your display settings a check-out. Someone said I need to install a Mac plugin from Panasonic’s site, but I’m not sure if this is necessary with FCP7.

I would love to hear about these problems, though perhaps this isn’t the right forum for it. I’m editing AVC-I on my laptop right now with little difficulty.

as shane said, there are presets for all the tapeless formats. the tricky bits are if its 59.97, 60, 30, 29.97 etc. if the framerates in your view setings dont match the media, you will not see real time playback.

When you log and transfer file based media into fcp7/fcs3, the media gets a new “wrapper” that is quicktime freindly. Its still some variation of mpeg/gop video, just one that FCP likes.

You should choose Prores 422 in your render settings. For best results make the Compressor in your sequence settings Pro Res 422 (it does not need to be HQ). this will make any native exports pro res as well.

You shouldn’t be working in Uncompressed 10bit, you should be working in a ProResHQ sequence with your video output set to 10bit.

How are you going? Yes another editor* here. Imagine if edit had survived and developed until now? Would have been amazing I’m sure.
Thanks for the tips. I got RT on the HD-SDI going with the ProRes settings. I hadn’t tried that as I always have worked in 10-bit uncompressed. I guess I can still out a final export version in 10-bit uncompressed QuickTime after the project is done?
