    Hi, are the source images conformed by Resolve the red r3ds? Check the clips in the media pool, right click and look for H flip and V flip, these may be set by the red camera metadata as the would be for a stereo project. You can easily deselect this if needed.

    If it’s not this, you can use resolve to flip the image, check format input tab.

    Thanks Mike for your feedback. We are quite close to release but Im pleased to say we did get the offline wipe and mix modes back in. They will appear on the offline viewer while still maintaining the synced Timeline view. There are a number of additional XML features including the effects you mention which we will get to in time. We understand the clear benefit of having these effects natively in Resolve so colorists can use their source files at full res. We welcome requests for additional features for the future.

    I’m personally very pleased the 8.0 beta is going well. Thank you for testing. The team here work day and night to make it as stable as we can.

    NR is very GPU intensive and the code is fully optimized. NR will not operate on the OpenCL graphics systems at all. We expect as faster CUDA GPU’s from Nvidia become available this will be less noticeable but in the meantime, see if NR Radius setting 3 is enough to reduce the noise as this is a sweet spot for the Mac.
    Linux uses with the new 4 or 8 GPUs can have multiple 2K NR nodes in real time. We don’t try to make the Mac slower and there is no difference in software, just the GPUs available for Linux have more CUDA cores.

  • We are recommending the OpenCL implementation for only up to HD res and currently its only available on a single GPU. Noise Reduction is only possible on the CUDA GPUs due to the high processing demands required for NR.
    On the Mac OS X up to three CUDA GPUs can be used for image processing, another GPU for the UI, and on the Linux OS we support up to 16GPUs.

    Check out the Remote grading section of the Resolve user manual. You can consider this like a remote grade but not always live. When the assistant has finished with the setup, using the low res images or proxies, they can save the project file as Ronald says and send to you on the big system. You just need to deselect proxy to go back to the high res source clips.

    To help promote the art of color correction, DaVinci Resolve Lite includes many powerful features found in the full version of DaVinci Resolve for an extremely powerful toolset that anyone will able to download. DaVinci Resolve Lite is based on the upcoming DaVinci Resolve 8, and will run on the latest model iMac, 17inch MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro computers.

    DaVinci Resolve Lite includes all the same high quality processing of the full DaVinci Resolve, however limits projects to SD and HD resolutions, only two color correction nodes, a single processing GPU and a single RED rocket card. With so many powerful features at absolutely no charge, customers will be able to experience the dramatic improvement to their work from using professional color correction.

    Hi All, as demonstrated live at NAB, DaVinci Resolve 8.0 supports Epic and also HDRx. We also now have r3d decoder controls on the DaVinci Resolve Control Surface. Release is due in June. Given the continued development of the r3d SDK, Rocket Drivers and Resolve we are looking into a dot update for Epic support in 7.1 so you can use the EPIC 5K images before the 8.0 release. Stay tuned for details. We should have something next week.

    Hi, i expect you have reached the hardware resources limit. As a starting point, if your timeline is longer than 20 minutes try cutting it into segments of that length and only load the material needed for that 20 mins into the Media Pool.

    You can use LUTs generated by a number of systems including the one you mentioned however as they don’t have a simple export LUT function to a open LUT format, like .cube, then it takes a little extra work.

    If you refer to chapter 6 of the Resolve user guide in the section on generating LUTs there is some guidance.

    Hi, in Resolve we calculate all grading processing, including for rendering, in GPU and with 8.0 due for release in June there are more debayer and other calculations also in GPU. The CPU’s are used for the encoding and decoding processes, like converting ProRes to RGB pixel data for the GPU’s. The CPU’s also are utilized for the disk I/O process just like any other disk I/O.

    If your study is related to rendering, there are other considerations. For example, can the drive subsystem provide bandwidth to read the files on disk, send then to Resolve, have them processed and then write them back to the disk. Often its the Raid controller or disk I/O that’s the speed bump.

    With two discreet volumes you can discount the disks themselves but unless you have a fibreChannel drive interface, and thus a separate Raid controller for each drive chassis, the Raid controller is one place to consider.

    We have customers who can render at +100fps but it requires the right combination of hardware.
