    Logs.
    You can find them at
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve

There is also a capture logs app in the same folder.

    Please send them to

The OpenCL implementation is limited to a single image processing card. If you want more performance add more Quadro 4000 cards, which are CUDA based. You can have up to three in the Mac OS X and 16 in Linux.

  • Darin is correct. Install 8.0, at launch on the log in page you will be prompted to upgrade your database. Decline that the first time so you can backup your 7.1 database using the new Database Manager tools. Then you have a safety copy.
After you have done that you can now upgrade the 7.1 to a 8.0 database using the Database Manager. You should not see any color, lut or other issues. you security blanket is that you can always re-install 7.1 and use the safety backup of the 7.1 database that you made.

Just FYI, we do this sort of thing daily in the R&D during the testing phase.

8.0 supports OpenCL for image processing but for performance applications CUDA GPUs are far better. You can also put in more than one CUDA GPU (up to 3) but are limited to a single OpenCL GPU for image processing. This is an OS X limit, not Resolve limit. Thus we do not recommend configuring a MacPro with more than one OpenCL GPU and to only use that for the GUI if you do use one.

OpenCL also can not perform any noise reduction so this feature is only available on CUDA processing systems.

The track tab node and grades are applied downstream of all tracks so it is normal to apply the grade to all clips no matter which timeline track they are in.

I think you should try removing these lines from your debug.

There are two parts to the round trip process. One is the image file format and the other the EDL/XML/AAF/ALE metadata exchange. Prior to 8.0 there was EDL and limited AAF.

Resolve 8.0 on Mac can render in many file formats with reel numbers etc in the header or file name as appropriate for the NLE of choice, with clips in different folders as required when there are duplicate source clip timecodes with different grades. Resolve 8.0 can also accept an AAF from Avid Media Composer (and relink graded images back in MC) or XML from FCP7 and send XML back for relink.

The OpenCL GPUs do not have enough processing power for NR. We reccommend NVidia CUDA GPUs for intensive image processing needs, and more than one if you can.

8.0 offers 35+ new features and the OpenCL implementation will operate up to HD solution, and 720p in real time.

June 26, 2011 at 2:07 am in reply to: Resolve Linux?

Hi, BMD have shipped a very large number of Linux seats since v6.3, significantly more than all the previous shipments under DaVinci and many are in quantities to the same company. You would know them by name and their recent Hollywood blockbuster work. We also have a number in independently owned facilities that are looking for more than the Mac OS X limited 3 GPUs who also have a Linux system, often with a Mac assistant station.

Resolve on Mac has a few codecs that are not available on Linux due to third party license issues, or availability of codecs, but the Linux systems have a big advantage in scalability and this is why they are still selling so well. The new 8 GPU systems will offer dozens of nodes in stereo in real time at 2K, even with blur or NR.
