Does v8 support the Mac Pro with a 5870 (minus CUDA of course), or would I still have to add something like a gt 120 to get it to work at all? The configuration guide mentions OpenCL support, but in reference to the MacBook pros and iMacs. I just want to make sure before we make any purchases.

8.0 supports OpenCL for image processing but for performance applications CUDA GPUs are far better. You can also put in more than one CUDA GPU (up to 3) but are limited to a single OpenCL GPU for image processing. This is an OS X limit, not Resolve limit. Thus we do not recommend configuring a MacPro with more than one OpenCL GPU and to only use that for the GUI if you do use one.

OpenCL also can not perform any noise reduction so this feature is only available on CUDA processing systems.

You can of course use the ATI5770/5870 just on it’s own as well. You don’t need a GT120.

Please do note the limitations of performance, and you are limited to HD resolution files and timeline.

It might be better to get the 5770 instead so that you can upgrade to a Q4000/Mac later when you feel you need more performance, or need to process higher resolution images. The 5870 takes up both the power connectors, and there’s none left for the Q4000/Mac.

Thank you for the quick reply. We already have a Pro with the 5870, we won’t be doing anything really demanding, nothing over HD resolution and nothing very long so we’re going to give it a go with what we’ve got. Thanks again.
