  • Upgrade process form 7 to 8 in between the project?

Posted by Teo Rižnar on June 30, 2011 at 9:58 pm

    Hello,
I am in between the feature film project right now. I still have lot’s to do. If I upgrade can I move on from where I am now in v7?
If I backup all the background files (Library->Application support->….) and instal upgrade v8. Will all the projects, settings, LUTs and grades will be intact? Do I need to copy and replace background settings files form application support folder back agin? Will v8 create new and replace old from v7?

I would love to continue my project in v8, because of new features of corse and make feature look even better.
    Thank you for your replies!

I was able to open my old projects and start working.
To be safe a data base back up before the upgrade is a great idea.

Darin thank you for fast reply.
Are the LUTs there and picture looks the same? I will try, if I back up I can restore or even reinstall v7 back I hope.

Darin is correct. Install 8.0, at launch on the log in page you will be prompted to upgrade your database. Decline that the first time so you can backup your 7.1 database using the new Database Manager tools. Then you have a safety copy.
After you have done that you can now upgrade the 7.1 to a 8.0 database using the Database Manager. You should not see any color, lut or other issues. you security blanket is that you can always re-install 7.1 and use the safety backup of the 7.1 database that you made.

Just FYI, we do this sort of thing daily in the R&D during the testing phase.

Same here. No problems with upgrade. just clean database import on ver 8 and all is smooth.

    Here’s my list of caveats:

    – don’t upgrade if using Phantom .cine files in your project. (Different debayer, your grade will change)
    – export your current project before updating (file, export)
    – backup your database

just to clarify – am i not meant to uninstall previous version first like on .0 releases in the past – but instead click v8 installer and upgrade 7.1.1 following the database backup process you mention??

any chance someone can layout this process in detail?

    cheers

Just get the new installer and install. It will over-write the old install. No need to uninstall, etc.

Reboot after your install. It will prompt you to update Decklink drivers (if required).

Hey Rohit thanks for the fast reply!

So what about the whole database backup?

The database is not touched during the install itself. When you have upgraded, restarted, etc. Resolve will prompt you to upgrade the database, so just upgrade and select the upgraded database, and continue.

Please note that database upgrades are one way – you can upgrade from v7 to v8, but not from v8 to v7.
