Take any one of the VOB files and copy it. Change the extension to .mpg and see if it loads quicker that way.

Post a couple of seconds of the original clip on Vimeo or somewhere and let’s all have a whack at it.

Add the Control key and the selection will be deleted just the same way but added to your clipboard for pasting elsewhere. Quick way to move shots around.

If you duplicate a title in a Bin and then rename it the new name will follow it when you put it in the timeline. Pretty much the name you give it when it’s born is the name that’s going to have once it hits the timeline. Makes sense given how you need the right data to follow that title for a unique instance and protects it from accidental renaming in the Bin.

Dressing up a politician’s lies is the worst. Cutting X movies down to R for cable was sad and soul-sapping. Flaming Lips videos for the first couple of records was incredibly cool and fun. Live @ Yahoo! was always good. Usually it aint’ the gig itself it’s the other people involved.

I to render out split screen CCR clips all the time to show my remote clients the direction I’m going with the grade. Much easier than sending them a bunch of different stills that they can’t see all at once. If I couldn’t render out the split frame I’d be the one starting a “Can’t believe it….!” thread on why the split screen is for preview only.

Your problem with it has a solution, if it was a preview only thing then it would be another problem.

So I went to add an animated logo bug to a promo in FCPX. Cool, but not enough punch. So I add another instance of it above and use a Vivid Light blend mode. Cool. That’s what I was looking for. Now since this goes across the whole spot I’ll just compound this whole thing and stick some fades on it. But wait…once the compound clip is created the vivid light blend mode on that bug is GONE. It’s stuff like this that keeps me away from FCPX.

And don’t give me the work-around. I don’t need work-arounds. I need it to work. That kind of compositing is a simple but necessary function that I shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to do.

Obviously, Apple got my money. That’s perfectly cool. And I’m cool with it being a $300 product ’cause that’s about how it performs. I want it to work. I really do. I’m the perfect customer for it. Self-contained corporate production. But it’s lost data, corrupted projects and outsmarts itself in so many ways.

If it can’t do all that then it just ain’t all that.

    Love the discussion though.
