  • Struggling to load clips….

I have taken over a rather nasty project that someone started for the company I work for.

It is a short promo reel for a clothing range. I’ll tell you as much as I have found out about the technical side of this project.

The source footage was shot on one of those handheld camcorder that recrod to DVD. (This made me shudder to start with!)

They were using Premiere Pro 5.5 to edit.

From what I can tell the previous person working on it has attempted to use AnyVideoConverter and DVD Decrypter to convert the VOB source footage to avis and mpgs to edit.

I was working on it yesterday, just tidying the edit up. Instead I should have been cleaning up the project somewhat, as I have discovered that they started the project with the footage on a server, and then mid edit moved it all over to the HDD on the edit machine.

Today when I try to open the project Premiere Pro hangs whilst trying to load some of the footage from the project. I’m loading it all from the HDD on the machine, however I can see that premiere is trying to load a file from the server. (I believe that the file it is looking for is not even used in the sequence as it is a VOB). I would love to have Premiere to load to that I can remove these VOBs from the project video in the hope that it will load quicker, the wait is killing me! 20mins+ to load all clips, and then it often crashes when I try to start browsing the project.

Any help would be grately appreciated.

The project is hours away from completion, except for the fact that it takes hours and hours to load and I can even finish the edit.

    I hope someone can help!
I hope this makes sense, let me know if you need any more information. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Whilst hanging on the loaded clip (9 remaining)….sometimes it also likes to try and auto save, which also makes it crash.

Even through the same clips are on the HDD as are on the server, it keeps looking to the server to load clips. Is there a way I can re-direct where it is looking when it’s loading?

Take any one of the VOB files and copy it. Change the extension to .mpg and see if it loads quicker that way.

I tried that with one file yestarday before posting, just tried it again renaming all VOB files, but nope, doesn’t help at all 🙁
