With the edit selected hit T to go into the trim window. Very easy to tighten up either side of the edit whether audio or video without interfering with the transition.

One thing for sure (except for the elite feature market) – today, you have to know EVERYTHING to be able to have value to a company. The days of “Im just an editor, I don’t do – audio – graphics – encoding – streaming – delivery – etc.” are over.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m fortunate that I’m hooked up with a small agency where the owner/creative director is also a DP/Designer. His strengths are my weaknesses and my strengths are his weaknesses. So things are rolling right along. His letter of introduction to me opened with the line, “Hoping you can tell me that I never have to edit again.” Yeah, it’s a good fit.

Right click on the nest in the project bin and select open in timeline. There you can add things to the nest and close it back up. Enable multicam on it and you can cycle through the layers with the number keys.

Put all the pictures that are being composited on the same layer. Select those clips and Nest them. Now you can apply one effect to that one Nested clip and it will affect all the shots the same. They really don’t all need to be on the same layer, it just helps keeps thing tidy.

Great point. And remember with CS3-CS5 with your upgrade you’d get that 30 day Lynda trial. That is such a boon for Photoshop users. On Lynda today you’ll find 12 courses specifically for FCPX and 34 for PPro 6-CC.

  • Luckily I was only testing some new lights when this happened. I had a co-worker stand in on the green screen. He was wearing a light blue shirt. I took the footage into X and as soon as I dropped the keyer on the clip it keyed out his shirt. I selected the green (it even showed up in the color range as nothing but green) but would not let go of the blue in his shirt. Nothing I tried worked. Same result every time. Guy with a see-through shirt on a green background. Same clip in Ultra keyed just fine.

Cut your fill layer where your mask ends. Remove the effect from the remaining clip length.

Just nest the fill layer. That commits all the effects on it and your key will be left alone.

What size are the photos? Are they the same dimension as your comp or are the just resized and positioned? Try the layout again with everything scaled to frame size.
