OK. Mac or PC?
Pretty sure I get what you’re asking for. I can only speak for the mac side though. So, the first thing you want to do is Gang Source and Program Monitor. You can set this through the flyout menu on either the Source or Program monitor.
Move your cursor over a Monitor window (no clicking required) and use a two-finger scroll to the right or left on the trackpad (laptop or magic trackpad desktop version) to move through the footage or along the timeline. With the Apple mouse you get the same effect with a single-finger scroll across the top of the mouse.

If you drag and drop the clip (drop to overwrite, cmd drop to insert) in the Program monitor it will display the clip you just added.

Gonna take a guess here and suggest you close your scopes. Close the window, don’t just hide it. I had that problem in CS6. Fixed in CC.

Import the clips through the Media Browser or Prelude.
I get the same thing with my XF100. Don’t bring in the individual files. Let the software do the spanning/assembly work.

So it is “on” all the time! I can live with that. So what I thought was an option modifier was just me being sloppy and getting what I wanted. I was wrong…and that’s a good thing. Feeling strangely satisfied. Thanks Kevin!

Should probably just be active by default. If there’s not a transition there it isn’t active. If there is then it is.

Yeah, I can highlight the cut (red bar) under the transition and option drag it, option left/right arrow to nudge it or put it in the trim window. Can do all the same with ripple edits (yellow bracket) as well.
