Just to give a bit more info, I’m using HDCAM footage and was also wondering if I can digitise over firewire using a JH3 deck?? If I do manage to digitise in DVCPRO HD can I output via the BMD card???

    Thanks,

I agree – use a blur on your source psd file before you scale it to TV size – you will see great results….

Are you kidding?? Do you really need to render colour corrections in DVCPro HD??

[john] “I’m still a bit confused with composite modes now and than, but doesn’t ‘add’ do the same as ‘normal’ if you apply it to a completely white layer?”

You’re right – the maths end up the same.

I do this effect all the time (albeit on a DS). I found that if you duplicate the section of the time line that you want to burn out to white 3 times on other video layers. Set the composite node of all the new layers to add. Add a blur to each of the new layers. Animate the opacity of all the new layers from 0 > 100 > 0 . Obviously experiment with various blurs etc….. (if your image is quite dark you may need to help the burn out by adding brightness to the top layer to ensure you do actually get to peak white across the frame)

On a side note, i’ve just received my new g5 with a 400GB drive in it – is there a free utility that I can use to test the data transfer rate I could expect in sustained use??

    Cheers,

  • Just make the move to buy Automatic duck Pro Export. It will cost about the same as the 2-3 hours of Symphony time used to make your multiple edls (for each video layer) make sense visually once you’ve done the conform.

That is assuming you have more than 1 video layer in your sequence. If you have just got an edit that is cuts and mixes then by all means try an edl. You may want to provide an OMFi export of your sound and also a stereo mixdown of your sequence as a wav file (or aiff) for the online editor to lay down as a guide.

That’s hilarious, Steve Nayler mentioned your name to me just today as he was leaving a 24 hour edit over at the london studios! Thanks for the reply. Fantastic review of Motion that i’ve just read over…

I’ve worked for an Arabic channel in London in the past. This was on Symphony, but I remember that we had to use an external Char Gen plugin to generate the titles because the title tool could not do Arabic. I would suspect that this is the same for all variations of avid, because the all us ethe same code really.

    Maybe you could try Marquee???

Thing is that an 8GB P2 card cost little under $2000 and will only capture 10 mins of HD. That camera takes 2 x 8GB P2 cards, which will cost $3600…… I’m not sure that camera will ever survive anything other than ENG production. But i would love to see the image quality of it besides the FX1/Z1
