The blackmagic Deckling cards do this job.

So you want to digitise a single field – but don’t want to digitise single field res?? I’m not following.
Some avids can digitise 2:1s – but i guess that’s not what you want?
You could digitise at 1:1 then drop motion effects on your clips to set them to duplicate field at 100% speed. You could also digitise through a Snell and Wilcox ARC100 with the film mode setup – that gives you frame based footage from interlaced footage. There is a 2 frame video signal delay to deal with here, but the results will be much, much better than a simple field strip – however you do it.

Chrispy,
I’m doing both – hopefully. I am doing a project that is shot HD with some SD footage that needs cutting into it. they are shooting HD because they want to pan and scan around the HD frame with the intention of getting an SD output. So I want to edit my content together in HD (both HD and SD sources) but ultimately end up mastering to SD.
I already have the BMD decklink card so Kona is a no go.
It seems difficult to get an answer on this on – i’ll test it on the job but for safety i’m getting an M2000 deck which will upconvert the digi to HD for capture.
Thanks,
Paul

Sapphire is great for this – but don’t get it if you don’t need it. You’d be suprised what results with some randon position/scale and rotation keyframes during a 12-18 frame swection of your clip.

Hi,
I am mastering to PAL SD but i want the ability to pan and scan around HD footage so i’m working in an HD timeline as most of my footage will be HD.
I knew the Kona could do this conversion, but i’m still lost as to whether the Decklink Pro can. Guess I will try tech support.

Toby,
That is your analogue blanking you are seeing. It’s quite normal.
To get rid of it place a DVE on each clip either side of the transition and set the scale so that the line blanking is removed (look in you record viewer – not the external monitor.

On V1 use a push effect between 2 clips, on v2 add a horizontal blur on a segment of filler keyframing 0 > 100 > 0 (%). I usually make the blur exceed the length of the transion by a frame or two either end.
You don’t mention what system you have or plugins so I can’t say exactly what effects to use…

Hmmm – i’m scaling a 8bit PAL clip to about 20% of original size (i want 4 images or layers up there) but even that aliases like mad – i suppose the only fix might be the antialias filter – but i’m used to a crisper DVE with my DS

You need the Flip4mac software to use XDCAM media – search the posts for XDCAM it’s been discussed recently
