  • Aliasing using FCP Resizing

    Hi all,

My resizes on PAL video results in lots of aliasing of the footage – even if I force it to render, is there a setting somewhere i’m missing – or should I use a different method of transforming my footage??

    Cheers,

    Paul

FCP is pretty good at pan and scan and resizing if the image isn’t too huge or too small. If you scale an image way back, it’ll flicker like crazy. So don’t scan them at too high of rez. 1000×1000 is usually pretty good. And then throw the flicker filter on there. Sometimes at full strength a couple times.

Hmmm – i’m scaling a 8bit PAL clip to about 20% of original size (i want 4 images or layers up there) but even that aliases like mad – i suppose the only fix might be the antialias filter – but i’m used to a crisper DVE with my DS

FCP scales up really well. Scaling back it kinda sucks. Try the filters. Also try making sure the Y coordinate is on a whole, even number like 2, 4, 6, 8.

If your images are high in detail it doesn’t do too well.

Turn on the high quality scaling option in FCP5, or blur the footage before scaling.
