I’m trying to figure out why I can’t copy and paste Arabic text in the title tool on my avid…
I’ve installed numerous arabic fonts into the Windows font folder to include the Microsoft Arabic font pack, and the Arabic text works in my Micosoft applications (Word, Wordpad, etc.) when I past it into a document. The fonts I’ve installed are even in the title tool drop-down font list. However, when I paste the text into the title tool and select any of the Arabic fonts– or any fonts for that matter, all I get is a bunch of squares on the screen. It’s like Avid doesn’t recognize the characters. I can’t figure out what the deal is. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Travis

    Hi.

Need more info – is this NT? XP? Service pack 2?
Also, which of your Avids – Avid Media Composer Adrenaline XP, Avid Xpress Meridian NT, Avid Xpress Pro XP, or Avid Newscutter NT?

Here’s a test: If you have Photoshop on that computer, try using the fonts in there. If Photoshop sees the fonts, you can point at your Avid software. If not, try a font re-install, power all the way down and restart.

I’m working on the Media Composer Adrenaline and it’s an XP Pro system. I have Photoshop on the system, I’ll try that out. Thanks.

I’ve worked for an Arabic channel in London in the past. This was on Symphony, but I remember that we had to use an external Char Gen plugin to generate the titles because the title tool could not do Arabic. I would suspect that this is the same for all variations of avid, because the all us ethe same code really.

    Maybe you could try Marquee???
