I might add this:

when I say the beep is one frame early, in fact it is at the right time code, it is the whole video that is delayed by a frame. From the very beginning of the file as Bars now start at 5:01 instead of 5:00.

But there is no black frame at the top of the file.It is as if the first frame was repeated (difficult to see with a slate though…) and then the whole picture part of the file is delayed by one.

1) I need to deliver 8 mono but will have a look at stereo and wether it happens or not. (difficult as we sometimes go days without it happening)

3) that’s the problem: it is intermittent, therefore I can not reproduce it on purpose. But I will try exporting just the leader to see what happens

Hi,

I am bumping up this topic as we just had the case yeaterday. Setup is 10.0.9 and Mountain Lion on a 2012 MacPro with 32G of RAM.

All was fine in the titles with accents in fcpx but when we exported, wether through mxf setting in Compressor or directly as Pro Res, one of the titles changed fonts…

This title included both accents and a percent sign.

Regarding fonts, we always install them via font book and Fontbook is happy with the font we used.

However, I’d be very happy if someone could point me towards an app that checks and validates fonts; so many productions download free fonts from the internet nowadays and some of them are real garbage, and I am not talking esthetics here…

Hi,

there is a quick start manual that I believe is stored as pdf within the app folder that you install. Other than that the site references a few video tutorials.

AE is a great subtitling software. As for importing text, I don’t think you can import a page of word document but you can import excel spreadsheet. In my experience it is quite finicky with the excel format and I would recomend you use the sample template as a starter, specially if you work in a language with accents. (We use it for french subtitling mostly).

I don’t have time right now for more but will try to help you when I can, so post your questions.

If memory serves me right, the feature only works with Alexa cameras using the latest software version from Arri. Could be the issue you have. (I remember testing it with a 2 year old file and it did not work).

No I don’t. I think it should be superior to them, specially to Avid’s.

As for the argument that Motion is not included, it never was.
Final Cut Studio was a bundle of softwares. The bundle is gone and you can now buy them individually (save for DVDSP and Color that are EOL’d). To me this is just a way of selling software, nothing else.

As for roundtripping, I am most impatient to see it come back and I think it will (but I am not reading tea leaves…)

And I stick to the fact that I would not compare an editing software with a compositing software, even though some functions in both sometimes blur the boundaries.

Hi Ester,

true, FCPX is not great at keyframing and we’re all hoping for improvements.

Having said so, comparing FCPX to AE isn’t fair IMHO. And for any complex keyframing, go to Motion (where you can copy, paste keyframes etc.)

One thing missing yet re Motion that we did have in prev. version is roundtripping. But you knew that.

Hi Sean,

quoting the user manual:

1) Choose the Select tool from the Tools pop-up menu in the toolbar and click the edge of a clip (an edit point) in the Timeline.

One or both clip edges are highlighted.

Note: If you select a whole clip in the Timeline instead of just an edit point, transitions are added at each end of the selected clip.

2) Choose Edit > Add Cross Dissolve (or press Command-T)

this is on page 206 of the manual.

I would recommend you check it out when having questions regarding the basic fundamentals of FCPX. Nothing wrong with asking here but the manual is a well written, SEARCHABLE pdf document.I am quite sure it took me less time to find that info than it took you to login and write your question here 😉

Further info about transitions in that chapter, including applying multiple transitions at once.
