July 8, 2013 at 10:38 am in reply to: Promise Pegasus reliability issues…

    Hi,

I’ve been using an R6 Promise Pegasus RAID for two years with no glitch. The only thing that surfaced was a temperature warning this summer when it was around 32 celsius in the office due to a broken AC unit.

The control panel showed one of the temp alerts being 2 degrees over the ideal temp and…nothing happened. It is still operating as asked and is, as Matthieu said, very fast.

I have also bought one earlier this year for a client and it has been running every day since january without a problem.

    Hope this helps

    Glad to help.

I think issues like these underline how “symbiotic” Motion and FCPX have become and, I would imagine, will be even more in the future.

The ability for one to design, within certain limits, his own effects without coding is unique. IMHO a selling point for FCPX too. Of course it means we now must learn Motion as well 😉

Maybe the standard effects loaded in fcpx should have been more basic? But then we’d have had even more of a knee-jerk reaction to it ?

BTW, to learn the basics of Motion I would recommend Ripple training.

Most probably because the transition you use is meant to work between two pictures. In this case when created in Motion the A and B sides of the transition are included in the effect. If you apply it on a title, there is no A side so FCPX will use whatever is underneath to “feed” that. Your B side will be the title.

In order to avoid this you need to edit the transition in Motion and deactivate the A side of the transition:

Then use the copy that you will find in FCPX.

There are a lot more posts about this here, a search should produce good results.

    Hope this helps

“AJA, in particular, allows you to capture and send the results immediately to an FCPX Event.”

Jeremy, is that true with the basic capture app?

And since asking about AJA, anyone knows why their Control Room app is still “coming soon” (has been for a very long time?)

  • Could Sony’s Content Browser be your answer ?

May 24, 2013 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Workflow for sharing Motion templates?

What we’ve been doing with 5 edit rooms using FCP7 and Motion on an XSan was to have the templates saved on the Xsan.

The editor would copy them locally to use for the edit. Whenever new templates were created by an editor he would, at the end of his session, save back the whole template folder to the Xsan thus updating it.

This worked as we had folders of templates on a “per show” basis and no show gets edited by 2 editors the same day in multiple rooms.

I imagine that in a similar situation the same workflow can apply to FCPX (a concept I am about to test as we will soon move those rooms to FCPX/Motion 5).

If I understood the problem correctly, at this stage I would save the original title (with correct ratio) going through Motion. Then apply it from the effects browser rather than copy-paste. Maybe worth a try ?

Check out Zeitanker’s Annotation Edit. We use it for all our subtitling.

Unless you haven’t moved to the latest versions, option-F will create a freeze frame.
