You should be able to upgrade to 16Gb of ram.
Look into the Radeon 4870. I use it in my Mac Pro but it’s the revision after your but I’ve read that it works But look into it.
I think you should consider buying 3 SATA drives, but them into your computer and do a software raid 0. It will be very fast and really help with the performance. Just remember to NOT keep project or originals on it as it has a higher risk of crashing.
If you get a video card that can output to a HD monitor most if not all of the HD cards from AJA and Black Magic will downconvert the signal to SD.

Ok…
1. Try to boot up into safe mode and then reboot. This should clear out some caches that might be corrupt. And if that doesn’t clear it up.
2. Download onyx and clear out the caches with that.

Do you have a lot of stuff on the desktop? I think this might be slowing you down. What kind of server are you downloading from? FTP/AFP/HTTP???

March 15, 2010 at 10:21 pm in reply to: Best choice for a 2nd monitor for G5 PMac 1.6Ghz – PCI card or ADC adaptorI would go with a ADC adapter… I am sure the Dr Bott will be fine, it’s not that complicated, it’s basically wires that need to be re-wired. And I would also try to get my hands on a second monitor that’s the same as the other one you have already…

I guess you could always create an action with a save command to that location? Default FolderX might be a good program too.

What do you mean with clustering? Compressor? Network renders in AE?
I think it’s always a good idea to have identical setups on the computers. Same versions of all the software.
