Running a Dual 2.5 G5 with OSX 10.4.11 (6GB ram). I recently upgraded from a G4. I download often from our company server. Always been a slow connection, but since the G5, everytime I download it completely stops me from doing anything else on the computer – I can’t even open a window on my desktop without a lot of beachball. Wasn’t like that on my G4. Are there settings I need to adjust to free up some desktop memory… or something? Thanks

Do you have a lot of stuff on the desktop? I think this might be slowing you down. What kind of server are you downloading from? FTP/AFP/HTTP???
