Oh – I meant I’m thinking of springing for Inqscribe. Anyone have thoughts on this program or another?

I’m thinking of spring for Inqscribe although there are a few other programs as well. Has anyone used more than 1 and have a preference?

  • It was shot on a Panasonic HMC-150. So, it’s AVCHD. I shot at 1920×1090 and am editing on FCP 7 with a Macbook Pro with a 3.06 Ghz processor.

As for what the docs for, ideally I send it to festivals and it gets screened. Obviously, like everyone, I have larger fantasies, but I don’t need to plan around them.

  • Is there an updated version of this DVD? It seems perfect for someone who is preparing to edit his first big project, but I wonder if, since it came out 4 years ago, there is another, more recent version or other tutorial I should look into? I want to use log and transfer, and I don’t think this tutorial has that.

I color code sometimes so this isn’t a good solution for me. There must be another way to do this. I sure hope so….

Noah, thing is, with DSLR’s, don’t you only get to shoot a few minutes continuously? If I wanted it for an interview, I worry it wouldn’t be any good.

What codec will give me the smallest .mov file on an import? I am giving someone some raw footage to look at, and I want the files to be as small as possible.

Did anyone figure this out? I’m having the exact same problem now. I can open the movie in QT but i cannot convert it through any of the usual methods. Anyone know an answer? I should add I also tried Compressor but that didn’t seem to work either.

It’s 24 fps in a Pro Res 422 codec. I now see that the time code box is giving me the time for where I was on the SD card I was using. In my workflow, however, I typically watch the clips in QT after transferring them, making notes on them. This means I’m making notes on timing specific to the clip. Is there any way to change FCP so that the time code box just gives me timing for the specific clip?

  • John,

    Good stuff. Two questions:
1 – I currently use an external monitor I connect to my computer with a DVI cable. Even after reading that article, I’m unclear exactly what a device like the MXO does beyond improving image quality for the monitor (not that this unimportant. I just want to understand the technology better.)

2 – With an MXO box, would the screen I linked to be a viable option? I’m hoping to spend under 500 for a monitor, especially since, as I’m gathering from the link, I’ll want an MXO box too.

thanks again. this is very useful for me,
    noam
