You can get by with a core duo, just don’t expect snappy response times on the timeline and quick renders. It’s like trying to outrace a Porsche when you have a Lada. Both will get you to your destination, only one lets you have a beer and a meal before the other vehicle arrives 🙂
An i7 or a 2nd generation i5 processor will certainly have the power you need, but you are potentially looking at a new motherboard, RAM and possibly a new power supply.
Depending on what I am rendering out and the amount of FX aaplied, I can get real time or better renders on my system, and it is 2 years old now.

Hmmm… therein may lie the problem. You might need to run a scan disk to search for file system errors and locate and fix bad sectors. If you don’t know what I am talking about, search Windoze help for ‘scan disk’ or ‘check a drive for errors’.
You may need to restart your PC and leave it for a couple of hours to do its thing.
If this is a new PC, it could be a dud hard drive on its way out. If this is an old PC, it could be a dying hard drive or signs of a failing power supply that had become inefficient (happened to me about a year ago).
The other possibility is that Vegas does not like the program that was used to create the mp3 in the first place, in which case IT WILL typically play in media player, but not Vegas.
Have you by chance installed any audio or video codec packs of any type? Vegas gets really upset 🙂

I use Quadcam Vasst Ultimate S and after enabling it, I can see up to 4 tracks. It’s just a matter of then simply removing/disabling Quadcam.
You could also experiment with Vegas’ own multicam capabilities and disable it, I guess, when you are done. I don’t use Vegas’ own multicam.

1) Do you have quicktime installed on your PC by any chance? Apologies in advance if this is considered a d*mb*ss question on my part 🙂
2) Is there any chance you can get the tape from the Canon camera and import it yourself? You should be able to use any HDV tape camera to capture it into Vegas.

Looks like you are paying the Vegas Pro product plus a “180 day support plan”, whatever that is. The product appears to be the same.
Why pay for “support” when there are plenty of great people on this forum will to provide top advice for the princely sum of $0.
It helps if you attempt to RTFM and refer to the many online tutorials i.e. have a go first, before seeking help.
Just reading through the posts in this forum can teach you a helluva lot.
