With nothing selected ‘n’ will simply toggle between turning snapping on and off.

Do this – leave snapping toggled to “off”. When you want snapping “on”, select a clip and start to drag it, hit ‘n’ while you are dragging. Snapping will toggle ‘on’ and then when you drop the clip snapping will toggle back to ‘off’ . That way you can leave snapping off all the time and only toggle it on when you want to. Just remember to start dragging and then hit ‘n’ when you want snapping on.

I had trouble with this in the beginning until I realized exactly what was happening.

I use Flip4Mac regularly. The only time I have seen this is when a sequence is not fully rendered. Do you have all items checked under Sequence>Render and Sequence>Render All (Sequence in the menu bar)? Try deleting render files through Render Manager (Tools>Render Manager) and re-rendering. You can export right from your sequence by using Export>With Quicktime Conversion and choosing Windows Media. There is no need to export at QT movie first.

Flip 4 Mac doesn’t like open areas in a sequence. In other words if you have a clip, then a space, then another clip it doesn’t like that space unless there’s a slug there. I had this problem recently.

You can do exactly what you’ve described. Since your original video is larger than your final output you will be fine and there is no scaling involved. Just set the sequence settings to 400X320 (or maybe 400X300) and you will be able to drop your PAL video in and center it as needed. It’s like using an oversized photo for pan and scan.

Try dragging the sequence directly from the browser to the timeline bypassing the viewer step.
