I have a G4 powerbook that is running FCP HD 4.5. I have a DVCPRO AJ-D250 that I am trying to digitize some old footage into it via firewire. I have chosen NTSC DV 48 for the setting to capture. For some reason it is not recognizing the video signal. What is weird is that it has full deck control. Very strange. I went into the A/V settings and it is saying that there is no device connected for video & audio. I threw out the FCP Prefs but that didn’t reset anything. Very strange.

Here is what is even stranger… I can open I-Movie and the video plays fine in there.

    Go figure. Any thoughts?

    Thanks, Randy

ANy other FW devices connected? Have you set external video to all frames (at the bottom of the View menu)?

No other ones. I have not even gone that far. Usually that is for viewing on export and your monitor. When FCP launches is says it can’t find the Firewire. But I still have device control and play, stop rewind and so on. Very strange. Randy

I just had issues like this with a AJ-HD1400 and I had to play around with the External Video menu a lot in FCP to get that thing to fire up. Try setting the external video to all frames and see what that gets you. If not, what you need to do is quit FCP, turn off your deck. Turn your deck back on, launch FCP, select a new dv ntsc preset and then check your external video. You might have to do this dance for a little bit before FCP will finally see it. Also, if your deck has it, make sure it is set to firewire in and out and not an another analog or SDI setting.

It will not let me choose all frames because I have no external video. It is all grey. I have no external video thru firewire but for some dumb reason I have full control over the deck. I don’t get it. It is pretty sad when the cheezy I-Movie that comes with the computer will regocnize my video but FCP won’t. hmmmmmm
