upgrading from 5.1 o 5.1.4…please help!
Posted by Coulter Mitchell on July 1, 2007 at 12:20 pmI’ve been trying to find the 5.1.4 upgrade online, and after a day of unsuccessful searching, I called Apple. According to the tech on the phone, Apple no longer offers the upgrade as either a download or a hard copy. If I attempt to download from the Apple site, it comes up as expired. I need this upgrade to digitize from a JVC HD110. Can anyone tell me where I may be able to get this upgrade through a third party? I’m also willing to buy it off anyone who may have a hard copy. Any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks.

July 1, 2007 at 12:40 pmThat’s ridiculous. You always should be able to download the last version of any series of pro apps software.
Unfortunately the page that should link to the download
https://www.apple.com/support/downloads/finalcutpro514.html
bounces you to the current version. I don’t have it any longer or I would post it. Sorry.
All the best,
Tom

July 1, 2007 at 2:47 pmI posted that link but didn’t try it but it jumps you to the page to the update for FCS2. Man I’m a company man to a fault but this is just wrong. I understand the 5.0-5.1 being discontinued but this is just wrong.

July 1, 2007 at 3:28 pmIt’s not working for me. I wonder if Software Update will pull in the right version numbers.
All the best,

July 1, 2007 at 3:34 pmThe page at Apple appears like it should work, but the download doesn’t work because it had been discontinued. Also, any third party website I’ve found offering the download just bounces you back to the original Apple site. If anyone knows of a place to get it NOT through the Apple store, please share. I need to start digitizing these tapes, and I can’t do it without 5.1.4 or upgrading (and PAYING for) FCP 6!
Thanks for all your help!

July 1, 2007 at 3:50 pmIf you have 5.1 installed and run Software Update what happens? Does it tell you that there are updates available? Can you install them or download them like that?

July 1, 2007 at 3:52 pmSoftware Updates doesn’t work. That’s why I called Apple. Everything about the download page for 5.1.4 is fake. It doesn’t work. Apple even told me to go through a third party, which I would gladly do IF I could find it and it didn’t lead back to Apple.
This is ridiculous!

July 1, 2007 at 3:54 pmWhat happens when you try Software Update? Does it say all your software is up-to-date?
