Greg,
i would just check that out with Decklink if i were you. I have the Decklink SP, and though it is a different card, both have the YUV in/out leads. In order to monitor composite, I use the ‘y’ lead and switch to composite in the decklink control panel. If this is the case i wouldnt bother with the marshall box.

We have been doing “edit to tape” for 18months now, using AJA IO and FCP, with no problems at all. Make sure you have the latest drivers from AJA. You can assemble to tape, you just need to stripe the begninng of the beta tape. With insert you have to stripe the whole tape. Print to Video is pretty pointless really. You might as well just connect the deck and press play. The only accurate sync you will get is the edit to tape.

Just think of DV50 as your 20:1 or AVR3s avid compression. Except better quailty, so youcan see all the glitchs in the foottage an not annoyed your grader by using rubbish shots……
so when using the AJA io, use the capture preset, “AJA IO: SDi to DV”, or “AJA IO: YUV to DV” etc.. depending on how your digi is connected. then consolidate when finished and recapture at uncompressed res. If any of your decks have a firewire out of course you can connect using that and capture just using the straight DV setting.

This might be the Dupe Detection issue that comes around every month or so.
Turn off dupe detection in your sequence settings options, and for every sequence that is in your open project. Even if that sequence is not open, FCP still searches for duped frames. Have a search back on the forum for sluggish FCP

Hi Bjorn,
i had this prob and a quick search on the net revealed it seems to be a commen one. I used the following fix and it worked, but be very careful what you are doing. I would print this out before tryingbest wishes
NickWARNING: Only advanced users should attempt this. If you attempt this hack, you must be prepared to undo it!!! (see below for undo options)
Click on the Finder icon in your Dock
Select “Go to folder” from the Go menu. (Go > Go to Folder)
Type “/etc/” (without the quotes) and press return
Find the “hostconfig” file and COMMAND drag a copy to your desktop. (COMMAND v. Important. THis bypasses asking for permission)
Rename the file to “hostconfig.old”
Drag the “hostconfig.old” file back into the etc folder. You may be prompted for an admin username and password.
Restart your computer
Open Compressor and submit a batch.
Hopefully Compressor should work fine now.If your computer restarts in Command Line Mode, you can rename the “hostconfig.old” file back to “hostconfig” from the Command Line if you don’t have a Journaled hard drive.
Just do the following:
1) type “cd /etc” at the prompt (without the quotes)
2) press enter
3) then type “sudo mv hostconfig.old hostconfig”
4) press enter
5) provide your admin password if asked
6) type “reboot” and your done
The other undo option is to connect a second computer to the problem machine with a Firewire cable. Restart the problem machine and hold down the “T” key to boot it in Target Mode. The problem machine will mount as an external hard drive. Rename the “hostconfig” file and restart.Good luck! Maybe someday Apple will add this information to their support site.

January 26, 2006 at 2:31 pm in reply to: REAL DETAILED INFO for anyone up to the CHALLENGE OF SAVING THE DAY!~ (in regards to compatible/appropriate sequence settings)just a little one.Surely if you are doing work at 8bit, your field dominance needs to be set to Upper, not lower. In the sequence settings and everywhere else. I have seen this jagged movement with moving pictures before. Then when exporting to Mpreg or perhaps a DV movie for a DVD, change your sequence settings to DV, and field dominance to lower. This is how it works with PAL over here in the UK.
Certainly the jagged images sound just like a field problem.
Let us know, best wishes

Hi There,
It will either be a drive problem, or, more likely if your sequence came from someone else, that you have uplicate frames turned on in your sequence settings. This is a common problems and you can search this forum for dozens of threads about this.Make sure you have duplicate frames turned off for ALL sequences in any open projects. If there is one sequence with it left on you will see this sluglishness. When you turn them off, miraculously you system is back to its usual instant self…
cheers

Kim,
in the edit to tape window, there is a drop down menu, above the outpoint setting on the bottom right, that enables theaudio tracks. You can select there which ones you want. I suggest all on setting. That should be it really.
