October 20, 2014 at 10:39 am in reply to: AVCHD just stopped working in FCP7? (then works again, then doesn’t?)Hi Eric,
I think the change came in with mountain lion, 10.8. My systems on 10.7 all work fine. The way round it is to transcode from the camera card. If you need to restranscode at a later date, for uprezzing footage for example, then copy the material back onto a card an transcode form there.thanks

October 18, 2014 at 11:00 am in reply to: Major issues after changing reel names with QTChange!Hi,
I use QT change constantly, especially with GoPro style footage. I have never had a problem, and often change the reel names while FCP is open, and FCP updates it once QT change is done.I dont change clip names, but the reel names seem not to be a problem.
cheers

October 18, 2014 at 10:55 am in reply to: AVCHD just stopped working in FCP7? (then works again, then doesn’t?)Hi Eric,
Your problem isn’t FCP7. it’s Mavericks. FCP7 works fine for me on all sort of machines running os10.9. A new Mac Pro, iMacs, macminis. However, mavericks/quicktime has done something strange with AVCHD. When i copy the entire folder structure of an SD card from an AF101 to our media server, using a computer with mavericks installed, it copies it over fine, but creates the AVCHD as a ‘file’ rather than as a folder.
When i copy exactly the same card to the same server, using a computer with os10.7, it creates an AVCHD folder.
The one with the folder can be read in FCP7 log and transfer, the one as a file can’t be read. Very weird, and obviously a minor change in the background, that affects FCP7. I haven’t found a decent way round, unless you have a spare older computer you can use for copying. Or using another bit of software to transcode like iSkysoft media deluxe, but that will ruin the online/offline workflow that log and transfer does so well.
Am still looking for work arounds.
Hope this helps, thanks

October 9, 2014 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Is this a good idea: making low rez versions of photos in the timeline while editing and reconnecting to larger ones when exporting? Also, if you choose to do low res for the rough cut, the problem you will come up with if you’ve done any moves or resizing, is you will have to do each one again, manually. Fallen into that trap before!! If you’ve got a lot of photos, that will time-consuming

50i doesn’t mean the frame rate is 50 frames a sec. It is still 25 frames a sec, its just that each frame has 2 fields, hence the feeling of a slightly smooth ‘soap opera’ style feeling to the movement of interlaced footage. But it is still 25fps. Don’t deliver to the bbc as 50fps or you will get it back for redelivery pretty quickly!

Hi Chuck,
i am using OS 10.8.4 (mountain lion) on a Mac Pro, and FCP7 works fine. It will depend on your machine though. Obviously do a backup and clean install. There will come a point where the app store wont let you install the latest OS. My macpro at home is on Lion, but it wont let me put Maverick on it.thanks

November 3, 2007 at 7:23 pm in reply to: Why can’t I capture the whole tape instead of clipsalso if the timecode is continous on the tape, you can add it after in the modify menu/timecode. Pick a cut on the tape so you know the exact timecode at that point and type it in, viola, one long clip with timecode

October 3, 2007 at 1:50 pm in reply to: need a recommendation for a monitor for color correctionit depends on their delivery too. If its just SD/digibeta then a $1000 JVC/Sony broadcast monitor will do fine with your kona card. Obviously HD will make things more expensive, but only if you need it.

Anders,
the compressor problem with AIFFs has been mentioned before in posts, i believe its an update thing. It used to work fine for me, the batch window never bothered me and you can close it anyway. But since the new quicktime came around its has started cutting off the ends of files! I am sure it will be fixed soon just as soon as apple finish playing with the iphone, and ilife….and etc.etcnick
