If you ask Wes Plate nicely, he may do it for you via email, as a one-off.
    Least you know it’ll work!

July 15, 2005 at 6:59 am in reply to: Converting Avid Bins to Final Cut Pro Bins?

    Paul,
just went through the change .
Assuming you won’t keep the Avid or have ongoing access to it, you may want to consider exporting a OMF2 version (no media) of your favourite sequences, the ones you’re most likely to go back to, as you can then purchase a product from Automatic Duck that will import them into FCP.
Once the Avid is gone, you can’t access those sequences for exporting to OMF2.

Sebsky Tools only converts the Avid Master Clips, and is fine for that.

    July 15, 2005 at 6:49 am in reply to: Compressor 2 mpeg1 16:9

[Jerry Hofmann] “Dont’ think MPEG-1 will support 16:9”

My Mediapress card will make 16:9 mpeg-1 files (in realtime) as will the ProCoder software.

[Jerry Hofmann] “Can’t you use a more modern codec?”

As the Compressor 2 manual says, and our real world experience supports, the mpeg1 format offers great universal/multiplatform compatibility.

If Compressor2 can’t do it, I just wish the manual would say that. And if the standard doesn’t support it (how come some developers do?) then I wish the manual would say that.
I’d have thought it was an obvious question or at least a Frequently-enough Asked Question to warrant the manual addressing it in some way.
    Thanks anyway.

I assume it can’t be done, and this is the workaround:

    Thanks Jerry.

What about when you are in trim mode and you use the ‘<' or '>‘ keys to trim frame by frame; I can’t get audio when editing in this mode.
From memory, in the Avid, you turn Caps Lock ON – Is there a FCP equivalent?

“Where is the “Mark as read” function gone?”

    and the quote ability?

(We’re not whinging, here, its just changes (to a site) should be changes for the better. Perhaps these are hiccups that will soon be sorted out.)

June 1, 2005 at 6:45 am in reply to: FCP export alpha? same problem …

Thanks Bret, I tried what you said … same issue.
If the clip is rendered, it won’t output the alpha.
(this is evidenced by my sequence, which runs part of a clip as-is, then cuts to same clip with motion effect (speed) on it, then cut to original clip again with no effect. If the speed-affected clip is rendered, it doesn’t output the alpha … ie, my exported QT plays first part with alpha, middle on black, third part with alpha …)

seems you can’t render the clip in the timeline which has an alpha. (I was simply using FCP to speed-up a quicktime with alpha.)
When I didn’t render the timeline, but did the export, my export worked. i.e. I got a new QT with alpha!

I trust that information is buried in the manual somewhere …
