I read through Chpater 9 of the manual “Creating MPEG-1 Output Files” and no where is there a mention of 16:9 ratio.
That is, the manual doesn’t say you CAN’T create 16:9 mpeg-1 files.

Can you or can’t you? (You couldn’t in Compressor1)

You can select from two standards; mpeg1 for Web (inc CD, VCD etc) or for DVD. Either way, you can’t alter the frame size.
So, for example, what if you want to include mpeg-1 on a DVD which IS widescreen? Your mpeg-1 footage is forced to 4:3 aspect.
Further – and this is my attempted use – I am creating a video in FCP which is 16:9. I want to be able to ouput to Compressor, to produce an mpeg-1 file to send off for preview. This is a standard and traditional workflow.
So why doesn’t Compressor (1 or now,2) support 16:9 mpeg-1? Other mpeg-1 creators do, such as Mediapress, which I will have to use.

    Thanks …

Dont’ think MPEG-1 will support 16:9… Can’t you use a more modern codec?

My Mediapress card will make 16:9 mpeg-1 files (in realtime) as will the ProCoder software.

As the Compressor 2 manual says, and our real world experience supports, the mpeg1 format offers great universal/multiplatform compatibility.

If Compressor2 can’t do it, I just wish the manual would say that. And if the standard doesn’t support it (how come some developers do?) then I wish the manual would say that.
I’d have thought it was an obvious question or at least a Frequently-enough Asked Question to warrant the manual addressing it in some way.
    Thanks anyway.
