Ref Tone at -20dB is for Digital and
Ref Tone at -12dB/-14dB is for Analog.Need to check exactly what the broadcast standards say.

This is probably part of an age old and oft raised issue.
The answer is usually that the metering in FCP is different from that on your Beta deck.One test for you, is to output your Ref Tone & Program to tape, then batch both of them back in and see if there’s a difference between the Tone and Program.
If there isn’t, you can be assured it is a difference in metering between the two devices.
As i said, this issue has been covered often since the arrival of NLEs, but I can’t point you at any definitive discussion. Maybe someone else can help, there.

my method is a litte diiferent . . . I
1) copy the old clip (Option+C)
2) Overwrite or Replace with the new clip (Replace is great when there are transitions on the clip)
3) Paste Attributes (all or selected)Quick ‘n’ easy – great FCP feature!

Another method:Try setting the Composite Mode to ‘Multiply’ then adjust the opacity to suit. (Setting the opacity to 25% is a good start – gets you in the ballpark …)
( ! Be aware that ‘Composite Mode’ values are not part of the Attributes for copy/paste purposes)

In Final Cut check that View>External Video>All Frames is selected . . .
If that card does output HD, then check the ‘Blackmagic Decklink’ settings in the System Preferences. It will have some options under ‘HDTV Up/Down Convertor’. Set these as appropriate …
If this option is not there, then realtime HD playback is not possible with that card.I think.
