3 little lines on NTSC monitor
Near the top of my 14″ PVM Sony, there are lately 3 little horizontal lines, blur, green and red in that order. They are across the top, on a slight diagonal. I use component and s-video in on this monitor, and the lines are there on all. Degaussing does not diminish them at all. Is this some kind of death knell for it? It is about 6-7 years old, and pretty much in constant use.

Unfortunately we’ve seen all the PVMs do this after a number of years. Ones from 97/98 started a few years ago. It didn’t seem to make a difference whether they were on 24hrs a day or turned on once a week. I think it has to do with a capicitor or something leakng or going bad. On the positive, my PVM-20M4U is 10 years old. It started with the Red Green and Blue lines on a diagonal at the top a few years ago. It hasn’t really gotten any worse. Otherwise the monitor still performs very well. How old is your PVM?

known problem, pay 200 – 300 bucks and have it fixed.

I think it’s 6 or 7 years, I bought it used from Walter B. who I believe was the original owner. So at least it has some good creative karma in it.
Oh, and it’s doing another strange thing for the past week or so, it brings up a black box about a third the size of the screen that floats off-center in the lower third, there is image all the way around it. It does this intermitently and doesn’t show up anywhere like on tape or anything. It comes and goes.
