  • Video Playback on Broadcast Monitor or Second Display

I currently am using FCP 5.1 with a Blackmagic Decklink Pro card and have a Panasonic HD broadcast monitor connected through SDI. My problem is when I try to play back any HDV or HD using my external monitor or even using digital cinema display on my second computer screen it does playback at all. It will show the point in the clip when i press play as static on screen and when i stop playback the new frame it is on will display as a still image on screen. Any insight would be appreciated.

P.S. It plays back fine when not using the external viewers.

    Thank you

You have to choose the appropriate VIDEO PLAYBACK option in the VIEW menu. Try the 8-bit HD ones that match your frame rate.

Thanks for the response Shane. I did select the correct frame rates in the view menu, however, some frame rates do not exist such as HDV 1440x 1080. What do I select for resolutions such as this that do not exist in the pulldown menu?

    Thanks again

The Decklink Pro is a standard def card. It can’t playback HD.

[Michael G] “The Decklink Pro is a standard def card. It can’t playback HD.”

They are supposed to be able to…that is what the company claims anyway.

Even if you had the HD version, you wouldn’t see an HDV setting. But you would see a 1080i 59.94 8-bit setting. If you don’t have that, then I am not sure what you’d do.

Post this question on the Decklink forum here at the Cow. I’ll wager they’ll figure it out.

In Final Cut check that View>External Video>All Frames is selected . . .
If that card does output HD, then check the ‘Blackmagic Decklink’ settings in the System Preferences. It will have some options under ‘HDTV Up/Down Convertor’. Set these as appropriate …
If this option is not there, then realtime HD playback is not possible with that card.

    I think.

I’ve got the BM SD and it plays HD 1080 and 720 perfect. Theese are the options that you get in the View menu. However other sizes I don’t know how they can play.
    Cheers,
