Could you find the clip you’re talking about and post a link?

One way to create somewhat convincing flames is with fractal noise. I don’t remember the settings, but play around with it and make sure to animate it moving up rapidly. Then add some color correction and mask it off.

The problem is that the bucket is rocking using the rotation of the cylinder, so the position of the handle mounts changes in a non-uniform way. Also, I’d like the handle to act as though it is holding the bucket up, so the top of it would stay somewhat stationary while the bottom where it is attached to the bucket would move with the bucket. I had an idea to make some tracking points on the solid i’m using for the bucket and then track those and apply them to the handle layer somehow. Do you think that would work?

Are you thinking of a super-reflective shine, like chrome? Or just a little bit of light reflecting? For the second one you can make your text 3D and then mess with the material settings. You will have to add a spotlight to actually get the effect.
Unfortunately, if you want chrome you’re probably going to need a plugin like Zaxwerks.

  • I believe courier is the font you want. Also, you might want to use the roughen edges effect to make the letters look more like they were actually ink on paper. Not sure how far you are taking this, but if it’s actually supposed to be on a typewriter (rather than just the suggestion of one) you may want to animate the little arm thingy that actually hits the paper- use a lot of motion blur.

To get your JPEG images to animate, make sure you have them all in order in a single folder alone. Then go into AE, File/Import/File. Check the box that says “image sequence” or “JPEG sequence” or something like that at the bottom left of the import window. Then find your folder and select any JPEG in it. Click import or open. After Effects will then create a file that has all your pictures in order as one frame each. You can drag that into the composition window and it should play.

Check out the “common AE questions” near the top of this forum page in the sticky notes section. This has been discussed many times and there are some tutorials that you can find by a simple search.

Sorry if I insulted your intelligence, I assumed you were a newb. Yeah, sounds like the boomerang effect. To make up for the insult, here are links to the tutorials, if you haven’t found them already:

I don’t think you need a plugin for this. You can create the text and graphics in PS or AE and simply overlay it on your video. Maybe use a transfer mode like add and maybe add a glow effect.
