You’re absolutely right! I was just trying to use the colorama effect with little success and then today discovered his recent tutorial on ramps/gradients that covered it! You’re the man, Aharon. Keep up the great work!

Another option is Particle World, which is also free with AE. I’m pretty sure it has some bubbly settings.

Yeah, don’t give up that easily! Like Dave said, just duplicate your comp, insert a new camera, make that the active one, then nest that in your main comp where the screen should be.

Alright, I tried it and it worked pretty well, actually. Somewhere between cartoony and CGI, but you might be able to adjust some things to get the look you want. Here is the project file:

Just click on “tornado.aep” and download it. Hopefully you have AE 7, cuz that’s what I made this in. If this isn’t at all what you’re looking for, oh well, I had fun making it!

Ok, try this. Make a new solid and mask out a hollow loop in the general shape of your tornado as seen from the top. Make the anchor point slightly off center and animate the loop to rotate for a bit longer than you’ll need it to. Then apply a wiggle expression to your solid. Pre-comp the solid (this might not be necessary, but I’m not sure) then make the pre-comp 3D. Rotate it to where you want it (the top of the tornado). Then duplicate it many times (20 or more, probably) and adjust the position and scale so that each one down is a little smaller. You will also need to apply some color correction to vary the color from black to gray to white (or brown). Then move the entire clip of each duplicate a litte forward/backward in the timeline. If you stagger them you might be able to get a wavy effect. This is hard to explain, so if you have questions ask. I will probably try this myself tomorrow (I don’t have AE on this computer) and see if it actually works!

Do you want the text to sort of bounce when it hits the ground? If so, try shooting a piece of wood/metal/whatever material you like from the angle you want falling onto the ground. You can then motion track the four corners (make sure there is enough contrast between your background and your object) and apply that to your text. I’ve done a similar thing and it worked pretty nicely. You might consider recording the audio of your object dropping because that will make your text sound real too.

Unless you are going for a more cartoony look. Then you could use a still of the guy’s back and his arm/hand and animate those throwing playing cards. Or if you want more realism shoot a guy in front of a green screen and maybe add the cards in AE. Then fake the camera move following your fake card. The hat part might be the hardest part. Maybe change it to a table.

Yes, this is the first thing that came to my mind too. If NASCAR isn’t your thing, maybe consider a jet theme. I dunno, what else is fast? Bullets? Cheetahs? Space ships? Microwaves? Cigarette boats? Hares? Missiles?
    Have I missed any?

There is a 3D glasses effect in AE, but to be honest I’ve never tried to make a 3D image with it. Try it and let us know if it works!
