But why does it do it now. I am not used to seeing this FCP menu bar lock up at all under the old Leopard and FCP 5.4. Yesterday it locked up four times in the afternoon. The key pad input to Motions tab screen position also locked up. IS this Menu bar lock up happening a lot in Snow Leopard -FCP7 ??

Kent, I had a similar question a couple years ago. I purchased chroma key software that was great doing this but not that. This past summer I did a lot of Key work and found out that I should have saved my money. FCP has an excellent keyer for the money. Yes it can be a little confusing to learn. And yes you might have to layer up the images, crop the bad etc. But it is a great key for the money.

Thanks John,
The media info software said it was interlaced. But the big guys on the FCP were suggesting it was progressive… P2 30p ???
I am staying late to try your suggestion of importing using FCP and not Raylight..
I was watching the evening local news and I am not the only person fighting this.. A big Boy law firm is having the same problem… You can see the interlace problems in their eyes,,,, Yuk

David, your not real encouraging today..
I went back and made sure the P2 footage all said ‘none’ field dominance in the properties tab and the timeline was set to none.
This being an old spot template it has an animated logo originally from the clients 3/4″ ten years ago, a freeze frame of their marble walls from 3/4″ (years ago) and two Boris text frames. I set them all to none.
When I play back the mastered QT file on my JVC broadcast LCD monitor using the qt player it does not look bad. (This Mac Pro does not have a video card yet) There seems to be a little edge or crust on the leading edges as the boxes move across the screen. You pause the video and the image is perfect. The crust, I figured was due to the lag in the LCD monitor.
I burn the Mastered QT to DVD (DVD Studio Pro) and the crust turns into the interlaced-comb edges when played back on a TV-Tube.. It is just not as bad as when I use the settings for ‘lower’ in the time line.
Using good old betacam and my Cinewave never gave me this much grief. I either have a setting backwards, need a re-install or am missing a step or button somewhere.
Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks David, I will try none again. But maybe I think I should de-interlace the non-P2 footage as will.
Does DVD Studio Pro have a special setting for progressive footage? The QT playback of the ‘none’ renders look good, but the DVD burns accentuate the edges interlaced look.

Bogie, Every other day I think I know what I am doing. But that was back when I just turned knobs and let the three Betacam decks do the rest..
I think my trouble might be, as in another post from today on 30p… So P2 at 30p which shows up in the log-n-transfer as 29.97 really is not 29.97 it is still progressive. So ‘none’ in the settings tab is for progressive..
So it seems that all images in the spot should also be de-interlaced also. So I should de-interlace the background and the logos???
I have tried none a couple of times and it looked better but not perfect once burned to dvd.
This is the first time that I shot the HPX500 for this client. I usually shoot Betacam so yes this is the first time that I have run into this issue…
Someday I will know everything, the next day I will retire

December 2, 2009 at 7:10 pm in reply to: Can TAPELESS be used for litigation support video?I video tape a bunch of legal continuing education training. From what I have learned the key words to use when ever shooting legal video is “full disclosure” If you include signed/dated testimony to what is on the tape, disk, or hard drive, your video will be valuable (to one side or the other) in court. Testify in writing to what is on the media and how it was created or produced. This will allow the judge to have the last word and for your lawyer client to properly present your video.
And save you the headache of false law suits.

Dan “The 500 has very little going for it that is better other than the 2/3″ imagers. The VF and LCD on the 500 make it a no go for me, I care more about being in focus than having a larger yet thinner raster imager. ”
I love my 500 and I have just an old Cannon 16×9 lens on it. No fancy CAC. I guess being an old fart who learned to focus some really awful cameras, I should expect you youngens to have trouble with the 500LCD… For me, I have never had trouble getting a great hard edge focus with the 500 LCD… but then again I know how to focus. I like the 500 a lot. For the money invested it is one hell of a camera. I am currently looking to trade my Sony DXCwsl35-PVV3/DSR-1/Studio back for another HPX500 anybody interested??? I will sweeten the deal and throw in my Sony 4″ studio viewfinder.

Yep you might not own the copyright, but just try to get a local TV station to give the ok to a Mom. Not gonna happen, at least not around here. They will point you to a TV recording service that sells you what they recorded over the air..
Forget the politics, just go download iShowU a great screen capture software.. And capture it in HD…
