Chris, are you recording directly to firewire drives using HOST mode??/

otherwise your not shooting all day cause half of the day you have your camera docked to firewire drive for a download…

I had the similar concerns, I was waiting and still am waiting for a CMOS camera that I want to take home.

One with a global shutter in my price range. My clientele is the same as yours. Gov’t, corporate, educational, etc…

What cured me of the cmos with the rolling shutter was a video documentary on our big local TV station talking about the reconstruction and beautification in a down trodden neighborhood. It was very well done, audio, camera work and editing… But they couldn’t edit out the big interview of the big money guy in town talking about the project. This clip was shot in one of the rehabbed buildings. And there behind him on a blank wall you had a perfect example of a rolling shutter effect caused by a flickering florescent bulb.. It ruined the show, the interview, the reason for the video..

You can’t guarantee the lighting you will be getting involved in. I am not Hollywood, with the big grip truck so I don’t pretend to be.

I love my HPX500 (with my Betacam Lens) and my HVX200.. a great, affordable 2 camera set up.

Aaron,, I have the HPX500 also and love it. But alas could not monkey up the change for the CAC HD Lens either.. My engineer says there is no such thing as HD lens. There are just good lenses and really good lenses.

So I am using my old Cannon that came with my Sony DXC35WSL Betacam. It is a 16×9 lens and does a wonderful job..

The only weirdness is with using Cannon rear controllers. The rear controls tend to overide some of the Panasonic 500 ON /Off, STop Record buttons.. So I have to Unplug the rear controller from the lens every now and then to get control of the HPX500.

How the heck did you know that I have been fighting clientFires all day. Did I mention they are using 2005 Macromedia Flash encoder (Macromedia who) – does that sway the recipe or is 2005 Flash = 2009 Flash ??

Besides being a little Brutal, you think AVI’s is the best, how about MPEG 2 or H264 ???

Thanks Jeremy “What codec are you exporting and how are you exporting it?”

I have tried many variations, 1st – straight from sequence via compressor-
2, just using export>Qt movie>Current Settings (export to Flash-crashes the FCP)

I have changed the setting in compressor to just about all of them, Advanced settings>DVCpro 720p60 and HD DVD HD Mpeg2 – 30 minutes and Quicktime Movie, H264 for DVD Studio Pro, etc

I must be missing a button somewhere. I have FCP 5.1.4 on a Mac Octo with 8Gb ram..

Make sure your camera is on free run time code. Final Cut pro is looking for Time code..

It works very well with our HVX200.. Recorded over 36 hours once to a hard drive with no drop outs or other problems except FC doesn’t recognize quicktimes over 12 hours long.. So it would not open in FC. But it played back in the QT player.

I purchased an Addonics just about a year ago. It is a 4 drive, esata port multiplyer very reasonable. In fact it was the least expensive raid I could find. It has only provided a scare once, just after I got when I was testing it out. The trick is to stay away from the connectors. For a raid that you are not planning on moving around it has been great. Addonics.com should have a firewire version also.
