If you’re planning to upgrade today, be ABSOLUTELY certain that all of your software and hardware manufacturers have the correct drivers to run Snow Leopard.

Maxx Digital has a post on their forum, for instance, specifically telling all users of their EVO arrays NOT to upgrade to Snow Leopard at this time as drivers for the cards are not ready yet. So check the websites of all the manufacturers before you install or you might in for a world of hurt.

If you don’t see anything about Snow Leopard on those websites, do NOT assume the drivers will work, call or email to find out for certain.

I will probably put the OS on my laptop this weekend, but that’s all we’re going to do with it for the time being.

    Walter,

I thought you were using the Atto cards. The Atto drivers are on the Snow Leopard install disk.. According to Atto’s morning email.

Go ahead install it on your big machines,, You are one of the most qualified to stay up all weekend searching for bugs…. Just consider it an excuse to have an all nighter pizza party :-0

[Nate Stephens] “I thought you were using the Atto cards. The Atto drivers are on the Snow Leopard install disk.. According to Atto’s morning email. “

At this point I am very suspect of that claim due to some recent issues with one of their cards.

Also, Maxx Digital has specifically said not to update. Why would I want to jeopardize a feature documentary, a PBS Series and a host of other projects “just to be first?” Doesn’t make much business sense, now does it?

My feelings on upgrading to a new OS is to wait until the first round of updates. This is because most all computer companies put product out way before its really ready. Apple isn’t so bad at this but it seems to happen a lot still.

GIve it a month or two… Give it time to shake out the bugs before updating. Think of it this way. You just upgraded to FCS3 and now you want to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Not a smart move in my book.

Another safety precausion I think is wise is, NEVER have extra drives attached to your system when you are doing an upgrade, no RAID, no external FW, no extra internal drives. I put it in the “Better safe than sorry,” category.

Isn’t the new OS shipping with a new version of Quicktime? I heard this a long time ago…any major advancements? New version number?

QuickTime X. The pro version will require a new serial number. There is a downloadable copy of QT7 which you can also install.

    All the best,
