best green-screen keying software?

Kent, I had a similar question a couple years ago. I purchased chroma key software that was great doing this but not that. This past summer I did a lot of Key work and found out that I should have saved my money. FCP has an excellent keyer for the money. Yes it can be a little confusing to learn. And yes you might have to layer up the images, crop the bad etc. But it is a great key for the money.

I like the Primatte keyer in Motion over Final Cut’s keyer. That said, I do most of my keying in AfterFX with Keylight which is an exceptionally good keyer. There’s now a Keylight for FCP keyer that works inside FCP. It costs $250. Also, Noise Industries has a new FXFactory-based keyer called PHYX Keyer. It costs $199 and looks like a very nice keyer. If you go with one of these please post back and let us know what you think.

HI all

I’ve just invested in the PHYX keyer and its the best £110 I’ve spent in a long time!

It’s currently on sale by the way, think it’s 20% off, can’t be sure, but still worth the money.

Had some miniDV footage, green background, poor lighting, found Primatte RT in FCP and Motion did OK but the poor background lighting was getting to it. Downloaded the PHYX Keyer demo, tried it, amazing! Thought it was a bit poor to start but then noticed the drop down menu for 4:1:1 colour space and it cracked it!

Definitely a massive thumbs up from me!
