The 500 has a standard B4 lens mount.. So any lens with this mounting will work. When using primes the 500 is supposed to have a switch that flips the image for proper viewing. DVXuser has a couple great threads on different lenses and the HPX500.

Have you checked your camera tapes? What was the original source.

It looks almost like faulty tape heads on what ever played back the footage.

You have a Fuji Lens on your 500 ? does it have the 2x extender? is the 2x worth it?

Yes you can…. Just test and retest the hard drives. I would suggest. burn them in.

I have had the HVX200 for about 6 weeks and just got the P2 card with Barry Gs’ book.

While waiting for the P2 card:

I hooked up the HVX200 > via 32foot firewire cable (Granite Digital) to our MacBook Pro 2.4 using VeescopeLive and Final Cut Pro software (capture now) recorded over 2 hours of 1080HD to > 2.5″ buss powered Firewire drives x 2 mirrored and just recently to 2 mirrored 2.5″ sata drives using the express sata card from Addonics. Over 2 hours on 2.5’mirrored 160g drives with no drop outs (FCP make new clip on drop out detect -on) Very cool…
I am doing this in our studio for green screen work. So everything is a very controled environment. I did discover that all HD2.5 enclosures are not the same. The three enclosures I purchased last summer will power just from the firewire cable of the Laptop buss. So I got 2 more enclosures same manufacturer same HD and it needs auxcillary power from the USB port to work.. Damn Manufactorer changed a couple chips on the bridge board. The Sata enclosures also need USB aux power. So I got a Powered USB hub that has 2 extra high powered 1,000 millamp (if I remember the math) USB ports.. Everything works great.

Over 2 hours 1080HD – mirrored on 2 drives for safety. The drives fit in your pocket average cost about – 30 bucks enclosure / 110 bucks HD…. and then you get to recycle them with the next client…. forget tape..

or 1080HD location portable video recorder for under $5K… Macbook pro / Veescopelive / 2.5 HDs

I have a new MacBook Pro, also and have been researching the raid issue. I have a Media RTRX raid on my dual gig Mac and love it. Over the past four years I have read and listened to HD and raid troubles and blessings-of on this forum. Everybody says buy this one or buy this one and their reasoning is sound especially for the Mac Pro and really big jobs. Raid 5 and Medea tech support has saved my ass many times. But the Mac Book Pro has no place to plug in a raid card…

So … I want to build an affordable portable raid of about 2 terrabytes. With all my reading I found Addonics, who sells all the parts and pieces. The sata Express card that I purchased there is working great and was much cheaper than the others. Addonics has a 5 drive mechanizism that sits in their portable enclosure (it has a handle) and there is still space for a Blue Ray drive. all portable, all sata2 and plugable into their sata express card into the Mac Book Pro.. 5 -500g sata drives as a stripped raid should make for a very fast drive for the Mac Book Pro. But remember to back everything up on other drives because stripped is not fail safe. The Mac Book pro makes for Concenated (sp?) raids which I am still trying to understand.

I believe that in this tech oriented business, you have to learn some of the tech. What better opportunity than to build a raid,,, and then make it work.. The enclosure with all the parts is less than $300, just add your favorite Hard drives.

So my big question for the COW is; What are your favorite SATA drives??? Hitchai is my favorite ata drive. Is Hitachi the recomended sata drive. If so what model and where is bets price.

Iomega has a long history of not playing nice with Mac’s. I have a rev drive with 35g removable cartridges and Iomega has never gotten it to work. The other day at Micro Center store, there were two guys behind me at the checkout counter, one had FCP Studio 2, the other had one of the new Iomega drives… and I had to mention, good choice, bad choice to them…. I hope they kept their receipt.
